I will be traveling to Disneyworld July 24-30, and was considering purchasing the My Pal Mickey, I have 4 children, 19 yr, 10, 5, 5. Is it worth the price? I can't see anywhere where I can purchase it in advance.

We just returned from a week with a 9, 8, 4, and infant. We really hisitated about buying Pal Mickey. Especially once we arrived and everyone is already lugging fans, hats, sunglasses, water bottles, ect. We initially thought we would buy one upon arrival, and they we waited...finally after a few days there our 8 year old expressed a sincere desire for one (said he would forgo all other souveneirs for a Pal Mickey...not necessary, but a nice sentiment). He is a kid who really likes stuffed animals, and on a rough day I will find him sticking his "Ted" in his book back to take to school (it never comes out, but he likes knowing that he is there). The boy carried Pal Mickey everywhere and enjoyed him far more than we ever imagined! He loved the jokes and the trivia info, etc. It was well worth it for us by the joy on his face! My other two kids (9 year old boy and 4 year old girl) were not interested really and for them it would not have been a good purchase. I would base it on your kids.

Have you checked out E-bay? I grabbed one for (used but very clean- like new) $31.- and that included the shipping. My girls have played with it since it came yesterday and they like him. To tell the truth, I bought him for MYSELF!!! :rotfl:

Also, search for a thread on Pal Mickey, some show a 800 # for a discounted pal. Brand new, just not the newest version, with tux and bowtie.

Enjoy your trip :flower:

We bought a Pal Mickey two trips ago and he'll keep returning with us, but sometimes he's a bit of a pain.

IMHO, you need to have a child that is VERY willing to carry Mickey. Yes, he's cute, but I carry a backpack and don't want anything else. But, I have to admit that Mickey was religated to the backpack on many occasions.

We also have a DS (he was 8 when we got Mickey) that has to retell EVERY joke that Mickey tells!!!!! Yes, it's ok for a few DAYS, but by day 5, well, you get my point.

Also, sometimes Mickey would "shake" (meaning that he had something to say) and we would be someplace that we just couldn't hear him. Oh yeah, this was especially distracting for my DS - he just couldn't ignore Mickey when he shook. Do you know what it's like to have a DS8 who can't get Mickey off his clip, press his belly, and hold him to his ear to listen to him talk WHILE WALKING!!!!! I really surprised the boy never hurt himself. :rotfl2:

Anyway, with all that negative talk, we keep taking him back. Overall, I really do like him and if you don't get one you'll always wonder if you're missing something. He also can be used while waiting in line - listening to his jokes (AGAIN) or playing the "games".

Besides, isn't it very "disney" to walk around the park with a Pal Mickey on your belt????

No. We passed on it.

We got one for my DS (6)'s first trip to DW. We bought it on the first day, and he went everywhere with us. I had read some of the up's and down's on this board before leaving and decided to spend the money to get him. DS absolutely loved him and all of his information. I would even get excited when he shook and had information with us. Our Pal Mickey worked really well, and we did not have any problems with him.

We use the clip that is attached to him. It works much better for all of us this way. It's easier to put him up to your ear.

Minnie LOVES  to see her Mickey! Every time we went near where Minnie was Mickey had a who lot of shaking goin' on.

His white hands did get dirty. We found a pair of baby mittens from our youngest dd and now he's wearing winnie the pooh mittens. We received SO many comments on his "gloves".

The old pal mickey plays games, has jokes & can get updated when you enter the parks.

DS loves his PalMickey. We bought him one when we went to Disney and loved it. He thought it was a great souvineer and still keeps it out. We're taking it again in September when we go. The waiters at some of the restaurants made an extra effort to make the Pal Mickey experience fun for ds, bringing Mickey his own drink and little plate--DS thought that was awesome, and we appreciated their being so sweet.

I got a brand new PM from ebay for $40. That's with shipping. I don't know if I would pay full price for one, but saving $20+ was fine with me. We haven't used him at WDW yet(49 more days!) but we're having fun with him at home.

I'm thinking of getting one. But maybe when dd is a little older though I'm kinda interested to hear it myself. :rotfl2: I'm a big kid. ::MickeyMo

DD loves Mickey though she'd love him but she won't understand what he's saying too much though she does understand most things we talk to her about.

Most of the time we couldn't hear what Mickey was saying. My kids (2 and 4 yrs) totally lost interest in it after the first morning, leaving my husband to carry it around. He was the only one to listen to it and Mickey became more of a distration than entertainment. Mickey promptly broke the day we got home, so I would not recommend it.

tell jokes and sing songs.
Sorry you had bad luck. :sad2:

only 87 more days

my ds who is 8 loves his Pal Mickey and had a great time with him in the parks-we used the clip so we didn't have to carry him all the time and he was fun for my son who is an only child-it would depend on your kids I'd say.

We love our pal mickey!! my husband and i got it about 5 WDW visits ago (for ourselves!!) and we love it! now that we have a baby she is always laughing whenever he tells a joke! We really like him. :flower:

We paid full price in MGM about 2 weeks after he came out, i just had to have him!

I just received mine--ordered the old style, new in box, from Disney Character Warehouse (1-954-846-7161). It cost $27.99 plus $11 shipping, no tax since I'm in NY. There's a thread on the Budget board that talks about the old Pal Mickey - just do a search for Pal Mickey.

We bought a Pal Mickey this past January close to our last day of vacation. He was sadly relegated to my backpack most of the time because we couldn't hear him w/ the loud crowds. We gave him to my daugher 1 1/2 to hold in her stroller and she really liked him. Then we noticed near the carousel in MK that he was no longer in the stroller. I panicked. I saw an 8 yr old boy walking away from us w/ a Pal Mickey. I went over to him and asked if that PM was ours and he just picked it up. He shook his head and went to the railing of the ride. His mom looked at me like I was a nut. My DH was livid at losing $65 in one day. I told him to watch the kids and I ran all the way back to Buzz lightyear retracing our steps and our stop at the ice cream stand. Nobody had him. I finally ran to a kiosk near the carousel and asked the CM's there and they said "No" but they decided to check in the back just in case. At that moment a man came over to me (I was near tears at this time) and asked if I was looking for a Pal Mickey. I said, "Yes, thank you so much!" I was hoping the day would be a magical one in the end. By the way... he was the boy's father who had grabbed it off the pavement.... the one I spoke to earlier. I still don't know how his mother didn't know he had an extra stuffy that he didn't have before... but at least the father was honorable and nice.

My advice as to whether he was worth it. We really like him a lot. And the kids still like him now that we've been home for 6 mos. We'll probably bring him w/ us when we go next time. He was worth it for us... gave us a bit of a scare, but he was worth it. And if you get one.... always use the clip. Don't do as we did and allow a 1.5 yr old carry him.

We love our Pal Mickey. I bought it last summer after debating it with my husband. My dd(11) couldn't get enough of him. she clipped him on her fanny pack every morning and loved figuring out where he would shake. It also kept her busy in some of the longer lines and entertained some of the surrounding kids. We will be taking him back this year.
