Has anyone painted the interior of their french doors? I really want a change. The walls are white, trim is white, doors are white. Right now I just don't have the energy to paint the walls. The dining room and living room are a huge combined space. So painting the walls would be a large undertaking that I am just not up to right now. But I am liking the idea of painting the french doors black. But it's such a huge change that I'm nervous to do it.

I would love to see pics if someone has done this. The first pic (sorry it's sideways) are my doors to the back deck. Second is how I'm considering painting.

Why not? It’s a pretty low-stakes thing to try. If you don’t like it you can always paint it back to white or something different. All in the project shouldn’t take more than an hour or two and less than a quart of paint. Have fun with it, :wave2:

I *love* black doors. I do not have French doors, but I did end up painting my front door (interior side) black. It's an aluminum or some type of composite door, not wood. I can't remember the exact type of paint I used but make sure you use one that will adhere to whatever your door is made of. I also used a softer black (I sampled many different colors before I decided on one) and I love it. Thought about doing all my doors that way, but then got lazy.

I LOVE the look of interior black doors! I just don't know if DH would agree to it lol.

DD#1 used contact paper for a wall paint job, to see if they liked that color there. (just a small area of the wall) She was glad she did; they did not like the color in that spot. Maybe get some black contact paper (or go cheap and get black construction paper!) to see if it works for you.

Paint it black ej? I think the stones wrote a song about it. It goes something like this.
I see a white door and don't want to paint it black.
It's so ugly any more I'd just paint it back.
I see the deer walk by eating summer grass.
If I painted the door black my wife would kick my...... uh glass.

Our interior French doors and trim are wood, so I’m afraid once I paint them, I’ll regret it. Although I would like to paint the trim.

There was an episode on Fixer Upper with black French doors. Absolutely stunning against white with black/dark accents and details. Since your doors are already painted, I’d say go for it.

You can try taping it first to see the effect. Amazon has black masking tape that won't damage the current paint:
Black masking tape
Seriously, the amount of time it would take to cover the entire set of french doors with masking tape will be longer than just painting it. And taking it all off would be about the same amount of work as repainting it if you don't like the black.

The OP doesn't need the suggestion anymore, but just FYI, this stuff is art tape; it comes in quite a few widths up to 5". That would cover a french door pretty quickly.
