Hello wonderful DISigners!
For weeks now I have been trying to figure out how to get a lisense plate border effect. I use Paint Shop Pro 7. I have searched for tutorials and can't seem to find anything that really works for me. I feel like I am hitting a brick wall as I really want to figure this out but I just can't quite grasp it. Is there anyone out there that uses Paint Shop Pro that can share the secret with me? I assume it is achieved by using bevel but I can't seem to find the right combo of settings or layers. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks :goodvibes

When I created mine with PSE I simply came up with correct layers and bevels by playing around with settings. I learn more when I make no attempt to find a tutorial! :surfweb:

Took awhile I must say but I intended mine to look as close to a real plate as possible. Don't know how to do in PSP but good luck to you!!! :artist:

Thanks for the reply. I can figure out most things on my own by playing around with the settings but after weeks of trying I just thought I'd ask :)

Weeks of Trial and error and I think I final Mastered it. At least I am happy with the effect :thumbsup2

I love your license plate! It's perfect. Now you have to teach this to all the other Paint Shop Pro users (me). I have tried and tried and just can't get it.
Good work!

Barbara

Thanks! I am happy to share my bevel settings. I will try to write up directions if you want? The thing I don't like about it is that you can't save bevel settings. I started writing down what I use for differnt projects otherwise when I want to do it again I can't get the safe effect LOL

That would be great! I'd love the instructions. I know what you mean about the settings. I have a notepad full of settings for disigns.
Barbara :)

Hi again :) Here are the directions. I did it using Paint Shop Pro 7:

1.Open a new document or the image you want to use, I usually do mine 22x17 but whatever you normally do will work. Use the selection tool, rounded rectangle and select your image or area you want to use to make the plate. If using an image from your files crop to selection, Make sure the background color is white. If you are making your own back ground fill the area with the background, for the sample here I used the sunset gradient.
2.Once your background is all set, use the rounded rectangle selection again and select the area just inside the plate, about 1/8”you have to kind of eye ball it to get it even. It might take a couple tries to get it in the right spot. I actually had to start a bit outside the rectangle to get it right.
3.Go to Effects, 3-D, Outer Bevel. Use these settings:
Use the last bevel 3rd row
Width: 30
Smoothness 0
Depth 7
Ambience 13
Shininess 35
Color : White
Angle 180
Intensity 26
Elevation 55

4. To do the text effect I used Agency FB but you can use any font. But make sure you select Floating instead of vector. After you enter the text go to effects 3-d, inner bevel:
Use the second bevel first row and these settings:
Width: 31
Smoothness 38
Depth 18
Ambience 4
Shininess 25
Color White
Angle 293
Intensity 26
Elevation 60

If you have any questions let me know :)

this is my favorite thing to create!! :artist:

Glad you figured it out and thank you for sharing that with us...I use PS, but I don't have time to sit on it to play, so I have you guys work for me ;)

I am beyond grateful of all the DISigners here who give of their time willingly so we can have an extra special trip :cheer2:

No one could replace your work Marion! I just love all you do! :goodvibes I mostly wanted to master it for my sunset scene to use for cruise magnets.
