We're going to do some painting and I am having trouble picking colors.

I am thinking Universal Khaki SW6150 for our 2 story family room and entry way.

We're also painting two full baths, our 6 year-olds room and our master bedroom.

I was thinking of doing Nomadic Dessert SW6107 for both bedrooms. My son's bedroom has a red bedspread - red is his favorite color - so I was thinking the neutral color would work. But I wonder if I should consider another color? This will be the only time we paint for a long time. Our bedroom has a bedspread with a slate blue and brown so I think the Nomadic Dessert would work for that one too.

For the bathrooms I just can't decide. I might just do Nomadic Dessert or Latte SW6108.

Anyone know much about Sherwin williams colors or have any advice? Should I do a real color for our son's room? I've never had anything painted before - our last house had builders beige and I never changed it. And this house has builders beige in most rooms too.

My husband is a contractor so this is what he usually does in his remodels/new construction...plus my house is forever under construction ...so: SW Universal Khaki is a nice color. We have it in our kids playroom and it is the one color I am not sick of so I think it's a good choice! DH uses that color a lot on his jobs so it is a popular color.

I am not familiar with the other colors you have listed but it sounds like they are all variations of beige? If so, I would use more color in the other rooms. We just painted the kids bathroom silver sage from restoration hardware (SW can match it- they probably already have the formula as it is pretty popular) and I am in LOVE with the color!

If you are not going to be painting for a while in your son's bedroom then a neutral color is a good idea and your color can be brought out in pillows and accessories. However, I would try to go with a neutral outside of the beige family since it already sounds like you have a lot of that elsewhere. What about a slate gray in there? I love gray and red together!

I know the earth colors are "in" but it sounds like a lot of different shades of beige to me.

Of course, who am I to talk? My whole house is white except for the 2 bathrooms.

I like the suggestion of gray in the room with the red.

How about some celery greens? Still an earth tone, but slightly different color family.
