We are staying DVC, so I don’t have to make an immediate decision about whether I’m using a meal plan. But what happens if I make reservations at 180 days out for CRT, which I have to pay for at time of reservation, then I decide to switch to a meal plan? Am I credited? Can I do this all online or do I need to call?

You'll be credited and you would need to call.

You can call and have the payment credited back to the original card. Be very sure the castmember understands you are just changing the form of payment because it is easier for them to cancel the reservation, credit your card and then try to make a new one. Unfortunately it is possible in that brief time someone else will snag your canceled reservation and you'll be out of luck. Also, even when guaranteeing the reservation with the dining plan you'll need to give your credit card info for the no show/didn't cancel penalty which for CRT is the full cost of the meal.

Simpler would be to wait until you dine and let the server know you want to pay with the dining plan and they will return the payment to your credit card.

Part of our DIsney planning fun is choosing restaurants to enjoy once we are there, so maybe look at all the restaurants you will go to and then you will have a good idea if a plan will be worth it for you. For some there just are not TS restaurnats that entice them but for us, there are way too many!

We have never done the plan before, it’s never been worth our while. But with two girls and several character meals in the mix, the spreadsheet will be coming out...!

so if i pay out of pocket ahead of time for crt and then change to a dining plan a few months before we leave i just call and they refund the cost before i take the trip? just clarifying..i had a similar question

Thanks. I’m reticent to decide on the dining plan prior to making reservations at the 180 day mark because should I not be able to secure a crt reservation, the dining plan may not be worth my while.

Actually, do the math. CRT and other signatures are a poor value on the DDP.
