I call it the "My Child's *%$& Don't Stink" Syndrome.

MCSDSS
Mothers with MCSDSS are firmly convinced that the braying ******* sound coming from their child's mouth as they sing actually sounds like Celine Dion.
I am

because that so clearly describes several mothers I have known. The worst was this girl -- Susie -- who won a role in Annie for which she was blatantly miscast. Especially since the role -- Miss Hannigan -- requires a basic ability to sing. The 'braying ******* sound' describes her to a tee.
I actually did not believe my dd when she told me how bad Susie was, bec dd had tried out for the role and hadn't gotten it (even though she'd gotten a SO at the auditions) bec the drama teacher did not like her. Dd's been in enough productions to know how it goes, so I was surprised she had 'sour grapes' about it.
Well, we went to the show. And I could not believe my ears. Neither could any one around us. The minute Susie started to sing, the entire row in front of us slammed back like they were in a car that had gotten rearended. I thought they'd end up with whiplash. It was truly an unconscious reaction to the body wanting to get away from that heinous sound coming from the stage. I had to apologize to my dd -- it wasn't sour grapes. Susie was worse than any AI audition
ever. It was truly unbelievable. I didn't know the human mouth could make sounds like that.
And several rows in front of us, there were Susie's parents gushing so loudly over her that we couldn't hear the other kids' dialogue and standing up to take pics, blocking views etc. I heard Susie's mom go on and on about her dd's fantastic voice and the 'wonderful audience' response to Susie for weeks. I really had to bite my lip to keep from telling her the truth.
But I now know how these no-talents end up at AI auditions insisting that everyone told them they were great.
