Packing Toiletries?

Just curious how you guys pack your toiletries. I have a carry on with wheels that accommodates a toiletries bag on top (latches on). I have begun to find it tiresome to lug around. Does anyone put it in the checked-in luggage? In baggies?

Some suggestions would be great. I'm always scared it will pop open in my checked in luggage and get out of the baggies so I always end up carrying it on.

Thanks.

I'm the ziplock queen! I put all lotions, shampoos medicines etc in them. I have done this for years, and have had a few things leak, but because they were in ziplocks they never got on anything. If you don't overstuff the bags, the ziplocks will not come open.

With all the stuff I need to bring in a carryon, i.e. tickets, id, swimsuit, change of clothes medicines etc. I find that most of the toiletries don't fit in the carryon. (Besides, if you lose your luggage, those are the easiest things to replace, most hotels already supply them, maybe not the kind you like, but you would at least have something)

I, too, am the Ziplock queen. I put meds in one and this I always carry on. I have a small zippered pouch for essential cosmetics that I carry on, too. The rest gets checked... Anything that could be messy also gets put into a Ziplock. I always use hotel shampoo & lotions, can't be bothered to carry that. Since I also travel weekly for my job, I bought (from LL Bean) one of those hanging toiletry kits that holds razor, toothbrush, etc.... You can hang it almost anywhere. I happen to keep a second set of everything bc I don't want to pack & unpack every week. I ADORE this bag. It's the best "luggage" item I own.

Yup, zip-lock bags. That and the free-be makeup cases from Clinique. But I always put liquids into zip-locks first. And don't forget to carry extras with you. You never know what you might pick up along the way.;)

Put it in your carry-on along with meds. That way your important stuff arrives with you. Learned this the hard way when I went to Nashville and my bag went to Hawaii (wish it was the other way around), took 48 hours for my bag to catch up with me. I put everything in Ziplock bags, just make sure you leave a little space in your bottles and tubes for expansion in the pressurized airplane cabin or you arrive with a gooey mess.

Except for the most critical items the toiletries go checked in ziplocs. And I second mcnuss on the LLBean toiletry kit. The essentials go into that and it goes into the carry-on. We actually have a small, medium, and large depending on how many are in our party for each trip!

I'm one of those that fells better taking my meds, toiletries, and an extra set of clothing with me. I found, on www.QVC.com, a bag called "The Everything Bag Dual Function Organizer". I really like it because it holds all my essentials as well as a pair of shorts and a blouse and still fits under the seat in front of me on the plane! It's not much bigger than a mid-large sized purse and opens at the top for quick accesswith an outside pocket that zips for tickets, books, etc. But the really neat thing about it is that it completely unzips and hangs from the attached hanger in your bathroom!

The insides wipe clean in case of spills. Shipping and all, it cost me $27.16.

My hubby is the Plastic Grocery Bag King. In our house, packing is a "male job," and he really does do a darned good job of it. He uses Ziplocs and plastic grocery bags, and he always carries a bunch of spare too. No leak damage in our luggage!

I have an LLBean toiletry case, I carry travel sizes of everything, and I have had no trouble - I do use hardsided luggage though.

I would carry on medicines though -

I just unpacked one of our bags and VOILA!

Because of the ziploc baggie I didn't get Sunscreen all over everything!LOL And with it inside the baggie can leave it there until I need it again. It air tight!LOL Ready for our next trip to FLA in April!

I just saw the "Everything Bag" on QVC last night and thought what a great idea. Didn't order ...but now I will!!!:Pinkbounc :smooth: :Pinkbounc :smooth: :Pinkbounc

After having a bottle of shampoo spill in my luggage one time I now ALWAYS pack anyhting spillable in ziploc bags. Bring travel sizes if available in your brand or put your brands in small travel size containers. This saves space in your carry on plus it lessens the weight. I also carry toiletries, hairdryer, pair of clean undies, etc. in a carry on. Can't imagine getting to destination and not having my 'stuff'!:(

Another thing that works for us is...instead of bringing new, full bottles of stuff, I bring half full ones and usually run out by the last day of the cruise...then I just toss the empty bottles and have that much more room in my suitcase for souvies!!!!

Everything get paced in the zip-lock bags with the sliding thing on top....they are much easier to close and you can sqeeze most of the air out of them.

I bought one of the large toilitry bags (it might even be an extra large), and really like it. However, it is BIG, but it fits nicely at the bottom of my wheeled carry-on (I think it might also qualify as a "personal item" to the airlines). It can hold lots of stuff, and is easy to hang in the bathrooms. ;)

I do the same thing -- pack half full bottles so I can throw things away at the end of the trip. It really helps when repacking to go home!...i forgot about that one!
