Just wanted to share my fav packing tip... i put dh's and my shirts and any easily-wrinkled pants/shorts on my own thin wire hangers and bring them in the "suit/dress" luggage piece we got w/ our luggage set (the piece we never had a use for before because we don't bring "nice" clothes on vacation). i then hang them immediately in the hotel room and i always have enough hangers since they're already on them. hardly any wrinkles (really none at all) and the unpacking takes about 3 seconds.

Thanks for the tip..

My tip is:

Ziplock bags... in each gallon size bag put an outfit for each child every day complete with socks/underwear... That way they can pick which bag they want that day, and can get themselves dressed easier...

*also when packing more than one suitcase I split up everybodys stuff incase one bag gets lost everyone still has some clothes/toiletries, etc. :Pinkbounc

Great tip, thanks. I have never used that piece of luggage before and I was just thinking that the 10 hangars they provide won't be enough.

Whether or not you use hangars (I don't use metal ones because they slow down security screening), one of the best ways to prevent wrinkles is to place those items in dry-cleaner bags.

I travel for business, and I like to wear linen in summer. I press things before I leave home, slip them individually into dry-cleaner bags, and then fold them carefully. No wrinkles when I arrive.

Not really a packing tip, but a good travel tip. I learned this from the road guys at work.

If your clothes get wrinkled in the suitcase, put them on a hanger in the bathroom while you take your shower, By the time you are done, you have wrinkle free clothes. Works every time.

DH was in the military and taught me to roll everything when packing. It is amazing the room this creates! I also rolled then put those in Space Saver bags and sat on the bags as I rolled.

Another tip I read about was packing everything in a smaller suitcase and placing that case in a larger one. That way you have one extra suitcase for souvies.

I keep a small container (I use a empty altoids can), to put safety pins, 3 or 4 pre-threaded sewing needles, a few generic buttons, thread cutter and self adhesive velcro for sewing emergencies. It never fails that I have to use it at least once on vacation.

I also carry a few bandaids with me when I go into the parks. It's easier than finding first aid when you got a ****oo or a callus forming.

ameraumi, that is a great tip... just be careful with how much your suitcase weighs. Alot of airlines are more strict on heavy bags & charging $25+ for suitcases over 50 lbs. Once I pack, I make my husband hold the suitcase and stand on the scale (God knows I'm not standing on that scale!)
I didn't think we had packed that much but our was 47 lbs. I made sure to put a small duffel bag in there to bring the souvenirs home

Oh I was very worried about it. But we hit 42.5 lbs and it worked out great.

The other thing is to only bring a few outfits and spend the money to wash them.

I think the rol method is great too. It saves on space and nothing is really wrinkled at all. And it's a time saver as well, just roll up shorts/pants-a top-socks-undergarments together and now you're set for each day. :)

I second the zip lock bags. You can get 2.5 gallon size bags and fit a few items in each. Just fold the clothes neatly, fill the bag and zip it up. We traveled to Russia with suitcases that were really full and everything arrived in great shape with no wrinkles. I think they work better than the space bags, although those are pretty good also.

The 2.5 gallon bags are available at Target - I recently saw some larger ones at Wal Mart too. I have used them every trip - I roll the clothes. It works great!!

On my honeymoon, I rolled up my outfits and put the rolled up clothes in the ziplocks. Worked like a charm.

Does anyone know what happens if security has to go through your luggage when your clothes are in ziplocks. Would they open all of the ziplocks?

woohoo just joining... great tips in here.. making my list now

:confused3  What am I doing wrong? So many people recommend the rolling technique so I tried it. I have never had so many wrinkles. There has to be a "right" way to roll. Can anyone give me some instructions?
