Has anyone ever successfully packed and brought on the plane things like individual cereals, cereal bars and packs of Goldfish Crackers? How did you keep them from getting crushed?

Usually if I do not want them crushed I'll put them close to the top of the suit case or even in my carry-on.

I have actually sent through a hard sided cooler as luggage filled with all our snacks and duck taped shut after security checked it. We then had the cooler to fill with hotel ice to keep water, etc. cold. It worked as well as a fridge. At the end of the trip we filled it with our bags of dirty laundry or souveniers. We did once pack a suitcase filled with snacks that was opened by security and the lining was ripped, etc. The snacks weren't damaged but they really did a number on the suitcase.

I have put them in my suitcase between my nightgowns and also, in my carry on bag...so far I have had success:) Good luck and happy memories:)

I actually Mailed mine to my resort 2 wks before arrival with my reservation number on the box and our arrival dates. And they had it waiting for me at check in. :thumbsup2

If you have an extra suitcase, this is what I have done:

I pack delicate snacks in plastic containers and label them. I then place all containers in the suitcase and pack towels around them - if you are taking your own towels (I do) this works perfectly. never had a problem with crushed food.

You then have an empty suitcase for souvenirs and extras on the way back.

We were just there last week. I UPS'ed a box down to POR 8 days before my arrival. I tracked it and it was deleovered to POR on WEd. for my Sat. check in. I packed in it...cereal, granola bars, crackers, pretzels, snacks, plastic bowls/utensils ans also sunscreen/other personel care items, and gift baskets for my boys! Everyhting arrived damgae free! I learned about this on the DIS and what a great tip it was!!! I will definatle do that again!:thumbsup2

I use medium sized rubber maid or similiar type bins.
I empty them out of the boxes
They empty containers coming home are great for all the little things you collect along the way

we usually do the same, middle of the suit case with clothes aroud them or the time we went for over a week we used a spare duffel bag that zipped closed and packed all of our snacks and goodies in that. It worked well because once the week was over we had a bag for all of the items we bought during the week

I have packed them in a suitcase inside a large tupperware or plastic pitcher to keep them from being crushed. Worked great. The best idea is to ship your groceries by UPS or other carrier to the resort. They will hold the box for your arrival. I actually shipped a case of bottled water and other staples for our last 10 day trip. MUCH cheaper to ship than purchase there. Will do that again on next trip.

I've decided to carry on a backpack with a box of Goldfish, individual cereals, cereal bars in tupperware and fruit snacks in their orginal box. There is no problems with carrying on all of this food right? I think it will be less likely to get crushed and I don't really have much room in our suitcases. I'm trying to just carry one large and one medium for 2 adults and a baby. Too late for us to ship anything and too much of a hassle for such a short trip. Thanks for all of the ideas!

I just got back from a great trip on 9/29!! I packed the largest suitcase with snacks and breakfast items including 2 large boxes of cereal, box of pop tarts, 3 boxes of granola bars, a box of cheese-its, a box of wheat thins, fig newtons, then I packed loose (in ziplock bags) pkgs. of oatmeal, e-z mac (my ds loves it without the cheese), and lots of other stuff. Some odds and ends got chucked into a shirt box (shoe box would work if you have the room). If you are bringing a large box of Goldfish than you don't have to worry about it getting crushed. If you have the individual packets loose than the shirt/shoe box would work great!

Have a great trip!!

We packed an extra suitcase full of snacks. I have two teenage boys, and I knew they'd be hungry in the room, even with the DDP...and we used every credit we had. lol It was nice to have the extra suitcase to bring things home in too.

In my checked luggage I packed a couple of rubbermaid or tupperware type containers nestled in my clothes for snacks. I also packed 12 bottles of water, packaged in 3's in sturdy ziplocks. Then I wrapped air-filled plastic packing material around them, and used that also to surround 10 packages of mini muffins. All arrived perfectly, we ate the food, threw away the air-puffed packing material and had extra room for stuff on the return trip.
