Starting to get things together. We leave Saturday morning for our trip to California. We are excited but I'm getting nervous about keeping our 10 month old busy on the 3 1/2 plane ride! Anyway, on to my question.
Any suggestions on what to pack for her clothes wise. I am just not sure about the weather. Thanks for your help.

Pack things that can be worn in layers. When we were there March 10-13 we wore layers everyday. T-shirt, sweatshirts during the and at nights we added jackets or more sweatshirts.

We leave on Saturday too. Don't know where you're from, but I've checked the weather channel and the projected highs are in the low 70's. We are taking long sleeve tees and fleece jackets. Layers. It's pretty chilly in the morning and evening and feels nice during the day (as long as the sun's out).

Have a great trip!

I'm hoping to get some inspired ideas here. We leave Friday, but are driving 900 miles with my 10 month old (and his 5 year old brother). I'm really hoping that his brother does a lot of the entertaining. I know when I flew with my oldest when he was 1 1/2 years old we just brought a lot of different funny little things. Like beanie babies, small blocks, crayons, (which he never touched) board books, and a baby leap pad. I remember him not being very impressed with all of this things, and him throwing up all over his dad before the plane even took off! :rotfl2: I know I'm going to have things like bubbles, lots of little snacks, and some stuffed animals, and music of course! Hope you have a great trip, and maybe we'll see you there! :cool1:

OMG...best wishes on a quiet and safe trip to Disneyland!

Hint: Portable DVD players work like magic for long car rides. Good luck!

Best wishes for a safe journey to Disneyland! Hopefully, your little one will want to sleep on the plane. :)

Too funny. I have a 10 month old (girl) and a 5 year old boy. I'm not as worried about the 5 year old as he loves his DVD player and his leapster. I just need to entertain the 10 month old. Good thing is that grandma is going too so there will be 3 adults to pass her between.

I would pack lots of layers too. We don't get as cold as the Californians do when the weather is like this, but I do wear jeans and a long sleeved tee shirt. If you have that, another top on top of that and a light jacket you should be fine. For a baby, layers as well, warm socks, a hat and a warm blanket should be fine.

Don't forget to include a change of clothes for both of you in the diaper bag on the plane. I would hope baby sleeps on the plane, but if not, then a few interesting books, quiet toys, cheerios as well as lots of little bits of different snacks, and a blankie and you should do fine on the plane.

I did this trip last summer when we moved down here. What my mom did that was SO fun was give us this big basket of presents right before we left. Each present had something she had written on it. Some of them were for each of us, and some were group things to open together. They would say...open when you get on I-5 headed south! Or...open when you get to Eugene! Or...open when you cross the Oregon/California border! Or open if you see a Purple semi-truck! Inside were fun little things...sometimes they were snacks, the one that was timed to be about dinner time had a McDonalds Arch card in it, sometimes it was crayons or a puzzle, and a couple of times it was a new book on cd or some new music. We were always excited to see what was in the present, and the kids had a good time being on the look out for the different landmarks so they could open another present. It also helped to keep things spread out, so that they didn't open everything in the first 10 minutes.

I think you best strategy is to keep the 5 year old happy and non-whiny and he will keep the baby busy and entertained. If he is having fun and helping to watch for landmarks to help baby open a present, then the baby will think everything is hunky dory also. ;)

When my son was younger and much smaller. I always took double of everything for each day. I know it may be alot. But, saves some heartache of having to buy a whole new outfit because you ran out of clothes. So, for example if we were on vacation for 5 days I took 10 outfits. Also, a variety shorts and pants. Also, a couple of long sleeve shirts. In my backpack I also had an extra change of clothing for him also. I never wanted him to be uncomfortable if he was too wet from a ride or spilled a drink on himself, etc etc. I don't know if you child is still in diapers or not but an extra set of underpants and socks help too. Just in case of "accidents." I know it's alot of extra packing and but your child is small and you want them to be happy and comfortable. Now, that my son is 12 it's a whole different situation. Happy to help! :thumbsup2

Snow Brite your Mom's idea was brilliant! I have a 14yr old dd who would also be thrilled with one of those baskets, come to think of it I would love one also :) I sure wish I would have thought about something like this when my now grown up sons were little, when I think about all the countless hours we spent in the car while they argued in the back seat about "space bar" which meant someone was hogging more than their share of space LOL!
