Packing Only Carry-on Bags?? Any Tips??

:scared:

My dd is 13 and her df is 14 so I don't have to worry about bringing toys for the plane or strollers. Those days are happily behind me.

So our plan is to just bring carry on's so i only have to worry about what I have hanging off my body.haha We are going for 11 days but the last time we were there we took more clothes than we actually used or needed. I am quite confident that we can cram what we need in and if we need to buy another bag for souviners or new clothes I don't care about checked baggage on the way home. I want to carry as little as I have to to the resorts and parks.

3 outfits a day each!!:faint: How mant times do you go back to the room to change?LOL

I don't go back much. But I will maybe change my shirt half way through the day to freshen up. And then change to jeans and sweatshirt for the evening.
My DD is only 2 and doesn't wear a bib (she pulls them off if I put one on anymore) so each time she eats, she will most likely need to be changed. I am also a person that cannot wear something twice before washing! I get all grossed out about it. My DH could wear the same outfit all week if I let him. :headache: LOL! I just bring the minimum for him.

If I could trust the airlines, I would check all my bags and only carry what I need on the plane (laptop, mp3 player, book). With two small children who need car seats, strollers, diaper bag and can not carry it themselfs I feel like a pack horse and going through security is a nightmare.:scared1:

To the OP - my dh would love to be married to you! I am the complete opposite. 2 adults, 3 kids 2 weeks at Disney - are you ready - 10 suitcases and two carry ons (not counting the kids backpacks). Plus we ship two boxes with kids costumes and such and order from garden grocer. With all that I still end up doing laundry or sending out the drycleaning. We go in the summer so you have to figure at least two outfits per person per day. Right there that 140 changes of clothing! I probably pack about 15 outfits for each of the kids and maybe 12 sets for dh and I. Plus my girls travel with a million pairs of shoes! 4 pairs of pajamas and 7 or 8 bathing suits per child and you can see how it adds up. I can't imagine fitting all our things in carry ons but DH would love for that to happen!

Could any of you ladies explain about rolling your clothes? A girl I work with said she does this but I didn't ask her how. If you have a t-shirt for instance, do you fold it lengthwise in thirds then roll?? Or do you just lay it flat and roll it bottom up?? LOL, I'm trying to picture in my mind whether it ends up as a short, fat roll or a long, skinny roll?!?! Help me out here girls!!

I'm not sure that I could do it, but we are trying to accumulate more Tilley Endurable clothes as the years go by. They can be thrown in a bag and they don't wrinkle, also they can be washed in a bathroom sink and be dry by morning. The mens button down shirts in particular are fabulous for warm weather and are dressy enough to go out to dinner in. Their socks are absolutely fabulous and dry overnight as well. They aren't that fashionable but they are great for vacation...secret pockets in everything for room keys, money ,passports etc.

has anyone used the space saver bags to pack?

I would love to get the # of suitcases down.princess:

what is better the space saver bags or the rolling method?

I use space bags and ziploc bags. The ziplocs function the same and are cheaper. It is a great way to pack, but since you can fit so much more in your luggage, you have to watch the weight limit. I have a huge rolling duffel bag. I was hoping that I could pack everything for a 5 day trip to WDW in there for 3 of us. I got it all in, but when we weighed it, it was about 62 lbs. Oops! Southwest's limit is 50. When my kids were little I packed a complete outfit (shirt, shorts, underwear and sox) in a ziploc. I have boys who are coordination impaired. Since we have outgrown the gallon ziplocs, the company was nice enough to make bigger ones. I got some of the jumbo ziplocs. I put couple shirts and underwear in each one, squeeze most of the air out. Works great.

I fold the sleeves in from the t shirt, then roll. So it is kind of short but they are thin so they don't end up too fat. I find for DH and I the rolling method really works the best. We fit a lot more that way. We usually go to WDW in April/May or Nov. So, shorter park hours and cooler weather enables us to pack less. I don't think I could do only carry-ons only for a 2 week trip in the summer thou.;)
