What are some must haves that need packed for a 1 year old (minus the obvious: bibs, diapers, swim diapers, bottles, etc)?

Books for bedtime, a stroller that folds up small for port, small toys. We also brought a little first aid kit with bandaids, baby tylenol and baby anti-gas medicine just in case. Really, other than the "obvious" stuff, we didn't need a lot.

Just an FYI I saw you listed swim diapers- kids that are not potty trained are not allowed in the pools. No swim diapers allowed.
I think they do want kids to wear them in the splash pad area??

we traveled with our 1yo last year.. wasn't much "other" stuff we did bring her own sippy cup or the take and toss cups for her drinks - the take and toss cups were great because if she/we lost them it was no big deal because they come in packs of 4 (if I recall) Oh, we also packed her own blanket, just for comfort purposes at night.. but that was all.. she had a blast and they (my 2.5 DD, and 4.5 yo DS)had a blast!!!

-Stuff to do some minor baby proofing--outlet covers, those things that tie the closet doors together, etc.
-Infant Tylenol and other medicines
-Baby sunblock (not sunscreen) (the active ingredient should be titanium dioxide or zinc oxide) and a sun hat.

Don't forget a small bottle of dish soap and a sponge/bottle brush or some of the Brawny paper towels that have dish soap in them (these are my favorite go-to item when traveling with kids). You will likely be washing bottles and sippy cups fairly often and don't want to be trying to do that with the hand soap in the bathrooms!

Ditto to the sippy cups. We took our 14 mo's sippy cup to dinner, and by the second night, the server had cartons of milk on the table for us - super convenient! If you're into light packing, I would suggest a carrier as opposed to a stroller (assuming you're physically up for that). We walked around Nassau and Castaway with a carrier and it was so easy (best for lightweight packing is a Bitybean brand carrier, imo).

Thanks everyone!

I didn't think about the mini safety kit stuff (like outlet covers)--good idea.

I was planning on some cheap dollar store buckets and shovels for castaway that way I don't have to bring them back.

Drink carrier for sippy cups/bottles. It was great to run up to the drink area and fill up a bunch at a time. They have a whole milk dispenser, which was handy.

I also brought a bunch of magnets and my son loved playing with them on the inside of the door to the cabin. Very easy to pack and kept him busy a lot.

Bring a bag to leave at the nursery. I didn't want to drag my big diaper bag around the ship, so it I just brought a small tote bag for diapers and a change of clothes for drop off.

i like using the non-cloth bibs - the plastic ones that can be easily wiped or washed in a sink. i also like to travel with some disposable bibs. i also carry snack containers to fill with snacks from the buffets - so that we have them on hand around the ship.

Also consider buying a couple of reusable swim diapers instead of packing disposables. They are so easy to care for and take up much less space.

We brought disposable bottles so we didn't have to worry about washing dirty bottles.

The applesauce pouches are great. We've also done a stash of new, cheap (think dollar store) toys to keep the, entertained at dinner when they are around that age. We bring ziplock sorry tie bags for dirty diapers too - that way you don't have to worry about them stinking up the room. Wet bags are also great for wet swimwear. As someone else mentioned - baby medicine, just in case!

Our first cruise after having our son, I packed a lot of extras. I found I didn't need/use most of them. I had a ton of snacks (pouches mainly), but I learned I could grab extra bananas and boxes of cereal at breakfast. I had toys like crazy on the first one, but he was too wiped out each evening to play. I brought a couple of cars and an iPad loaded with movies/tv shows the next one.

Non-negotiable items: some form of transportation for him (either a stroller or backpack carrier), sunscreen, diapers/wipes, those scented diaper bags to keep the room from getting skunky, anything required for sleep (i.e. Pacifiers, sleepsacks, portable noise machine, etc), sample size dish soap for sippy cup (only bring 2), disposable bibs and not much else. I always pack a makeup bag full of medicine for everyone - Tylenol, pepto (for adults), allergy meds, Benadryl, neospirin, band aids etc.

My biggest advice is to pack consumable (diapers, wipes etc) in a box. You won't be bringing them home, so you don't need a suitcase for them. It saves room to unpack them then throw out the box on the first day.

They have diaper genies for free rental at guest services (or at least they did on the Wonder last week when we used one). They also let you borrow collapsible strollers (which we did for the grandparents for when they had him even though we had a big BOB for us). The list of everything they rent for free (bottle sanitizers, etc) is available online and can really make life easy. In an inside stateroom, none of the outlets were floor height, so outlet covers were unnecessary, not sure if some of the larger staterooms have more down there. White noise machine also isn't necessary if you have a cell phone app that does the same. I mentioned in the other thread we brought our peapod for sleeping, which fits perfect on the foldout and the railing they put on blocks the opening. We did put a pillow on the floor next to it in case he felt like cliff diving. We had put it in his crib for the week prior to get him used to it, and he zonked right out every night as if he was at home.

If you use any utensils that are baby size, I would recommend bringing those as well.

Already have those as we use cloth diapers. I love the reusable swim ones too and they dry fast!

I'll probably pack way too much as well. I usually look at it as I'd rather pack it and not need it rather than need it and not have it. I always pack a medicine bag with every possible needed medicine as well. Was the only bring 2 (after the dish soap comment) about sippy cups? She's drinking out of camelbak water bottles, and she has two, should I just bring both? We also have Take and Toss Cups (with straws) that she uses, should I bring 1 or 2 or those too?

Good call on the baby utensils....right now we're just doing finger foods, but we'll see when the time comes.
