packing list for marathon weekend

...snot rockets? :rotfl2: That was gross, sorry.

NO. NO MORE RAIN. I am still drying out from Wine & Dine! :faint:

Ahem.

I'd still plan on 2 pairs of shoes. Someone at my running store told me a way to dry them out with newspaper, so that's what I would do if I needed to (you can still get a newspaper at the front desk of your resort, right?).

Take your insoles and laces out of your shoes - set them aside to dry out.
Stuff newspaper into your shoes and leave it there for 1 hour.
Remove the first set of paper and stuff new newspaper into your shoes and leave it there for 2-3 hours.
Remove the second set of paper and stuff new newspaper into your shoes and leave it there overnight.

I've done this a few times before and it's worked pretty well fro me. I plan on using 1 pair of shoes for the 5K/half marathon and the other for the 10K/marathon, so with the newspaper + an extra day to dry out, hopefully that would be good.

I'd also buy a poncho for each race either at Disney or at home ahead of time. We bought ponchos early in the day before Wine & Dine and had those on while waiting in the corrals...so at least we were dry up until the race started (when we took the ponchos off).

And, you know...hopefully this won't be an issue!!

Plus 1 on this tip. It works like a champ. Don't forget that most rooms have hair dryers also. Those work great when trying to dry out water logged shoes.
And for god sakes don't say the "R" word. It's bad ju ju.

Well...if we all prepare for rain, then it definitely won't happen, RIGHT???

I tried the newspaper trick once, but I put the paper in and then forgot about it for a few days so I wasn't sure how long the shoes actually took to dry. Oops!

For those doing Dopey, if worst case scenario the forecast calls for rain every day, how many pairs of shoes would you bring? I plan to bring 2 already, but I don't know if they would dry out enough in 48 hours?
Just two. I'll only be wearing them for a few hours during the first two races, leaving plenty of time to get them to dry before the weekend.

Yeah, the paper really does a good job of absorbing the water. After I take out the first set of paper it's normally pretty full of water so changing it is key!

I'll just add what I take that hasn't been mentioned.

I use one of the little lanyard zip pouches with the lanyard attatchment cut off. In that I carry my ID, my medical insurance card, medic alert card, credit card, an emergency $20 and my hotel key card. I carry this in the zip pocket of my skort. (I'm a nurse, I always think "what if" in terms of emergency).

This year (Star Wars races for me) I'm going to also carry a chapstick sized sports sunscreen stick to reapply to my nose, cheeks and chin part way through the race. My sunscreen failed at DDD and I burned in those areas.

I'll also have in the room:

KT tape for prep
Compression socks for recovery
Arnica cream for recovery
Ankle/foot wraps and ice packs for recovery
My running first aid kit just in case (band aids, gauze, tape)
Food for breakfast and recovery snacks

I bring sunscreen. Unless it is (gulp) raining, I apply sunscreen prior to every race. I have one type for the body, and another one that, for me, does not run down into my eyes, for my face and neck.

We ran the Castaway Cay 5k in October during a driving rain. Never has our stuff been so soaked. But no blisters thanks to our Balega socks and Body Glide. Given that the next day was debarkation, we nabbed a pack of paper towels, and swapped them out every 2 hours. Then, later that night, I got out the hair dryer and used it for about 30 minutes. The shoes were still wet 2 days later, though much of the next 24 hours, they were in the suitcase for travel home.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned (didn't see it), but I also bring some Ibuprophen. In case post-race you reeeeally need it. Buying it at the gift shop is ridiculously expensive.

Amen to whoever said nail clippers and First Aid stuff (Neosporin for me - because as much as I apply Body Glide, I still end up chafing something). :(

Neutrogena sunscreen has worked really well for me - I am very fair-skinned and I finished the 2013 marathon without a sunburn. And there was a heat advisory that day so I was sweating buckets. Their Wet Skin or Sport lines are what I use.

Along the lines of bringing medical info, when you get your bib MAKE SURE you fill your emergency contact/medical history info out on the back. :)

WOW:worship: I don't think you forgot a thing!!

thanks! it's been a work in progress, I just add items when i think of them (or when i forget something!). I may post it separately so more people can see and use it.

I think I will just drive up with nothing packed since everyone will have all of this extra stuff. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Good lists. I used to do lists like this over 20 to 30 years when I used to go camping a lot. I would have the list checked and verified weeks before going and sitting at the front door just waiting to throw into the car.

I'm bringing two pair again for Dopey #2. I wound up ankle deep in water for the 10K this year and was able to dry that pair of shoes out for the full as I had planned. It worked well.

If your theory holds true, please also prepare for the "s" word too. I've already done too many miles sub-freezing this season.:cold::cold::cold:

Race weekends seem to be the only time I care about doing laundry at Disney.
