Packing Laundry Detergent - nervous about security?!

So I followed all the great tips from everywhere I could find them and packed my little ziploc baggie of Tide laundry detergent in my suitcase, only to find that it looks awfully suspicious when you look in my suitcase and see a big baggie of white powder! :rotfl2: Anyone else ever have their bag ransacked by airport security for this? I'm sure they can quickly decipher what it is but not sure I want to give them cause to rummage through our suitcases if they don't need to. ;)

I'm guessing that Tide probably smells a whole lot different than Cocaine, but I don't know for sure...

I went to Target, to the part of the pharmacy where they have sample sizes, and got individual packets of liquid Tide, all neatly packaged.

If you're really nervous, take it out of your suitcase and buy some when you get there.

Have a wonderful trip!!!

I have mine in a single size box. Is it okay to go in the carry on?

I actually have two boxes, but I'm splitting everything into the bags to make sure I have everything I need. I would hate to have all my clothes not arrive or something.

If they really question why you have a large bag of powder sitting in the open in your luggage, tell them to taste it. That should tell them pretty quickly what it is! :rotfl:

For some reason, my bags always get opened. we get those notices from homeland security inside that they have been "randomly" searched. I think i heard once that dense things like peanut butter often "hit". I've brought a jar a few times. :confused3

I think someone who's going to try to hide something illegal would have it more concealed than a ziploc bag! I'm sure the scent of Tide could be detected even throught the bag if your suitcase was searched.

I use liquid ALL Free&Clear. I once bought two $1 travel samples (plastic bottle/2 loads per bottle) at Target. Now, each WDW trip I just refill. I like having the appropriate/label for contents--for organization not airline security. I don't have very little kids anymore but still don't want them confusing a bottle of detergent for shampoo or something either.

This made me laugh out loud. Too funny.

I also bought the single load packets of Tide at Target. I thought that was great when I found those because last year they only had the trial size of Tide in a bulky plastic container.

Why not just write Tide on the bag with a Sharpie?
I'm sure they'll know when they smell it.
You shouldn't feel guilty; you're not doing anything wrong or illegal. :goodvibes

I don't pack Rx meds in their original bottles like you're supposed to. Dh and I both take meds for high BP and it comes in a 90 day supply so it's a big bottle. I also take allergy meds. Also each kid takes chewable fluoride in 90 day supply bottles too. Ds has asthma so there's an inhaler and spacer. We'd need a carryon just for meds if we kept them in their original bottles.

I put my meds with dh's in a snack size ziploc with the name of each drug and dose written with a sharpie. We know which are ours, they look very different. I put the kids fluoride in another baggy. Then another with Tylenol & Motrin, all labelled with a sharpie. They fit in a zipper pocket of my purse and never had a problem.
I love Sharpies! :goodvibes
