I'm busy working on my packing list for our first trip with the kids, 6 & 5. I think I have everything under control except....what OTC meds to take just in case.

What meds do you take for your family to be sure you don't have to shell out gobs of money for it at the gift shop?:)

I always bring with me hydrocortizone cream, children's chewable tylenol, a few children's cold strips and children's benedryl strips. I find that the new strips that they have are very easy to carry, don't spill and weigh close to nothing. For myself and my DH I bring pain meds (ibuprofen, tylenol), heartburn med. (Tums, etc.), imodium (you just never know...), some cold medicine tablets, my DH's allergy OTC med. Plus I also bring band-aids, neosporin (smallest tube I can find), aloe vera for sunburn and a bug bite pen (one of us always gets a bad misquito bite).

Hope that gets you started.

I do all the one's PP said but do the Neosporin spray and a foldable pack of bandaids for the kid/baby bag. I also bring a long one of those Triaminic fans and refill packs. Our kids have allergies and depending on what's in the air they can have troubles w/congestion while sleeping in a different state. I also bring a cold & stomach meds for everyone just incase someone comes down with something. Been there done that and had to run to Walgreens 15 times in one trip.

You can, in a pinch, go by the first aid centers in the parks and they will distribute any meds you need for free if you forget something in the room.

Leaving Saturday, bringing Children's Tylenol/Motrin/Benedryl, still debating on getting children's Pepto. Not sure if a 4 yr old can take the adult chewable ones, have to find out. I'm taking the thermometer just in case, a whole slew of bandaids and Triple Antibiotic. For us...Motrin, Benedryl, Excedrin, AZO, Immodium, Pepto and I know I must be forgetting something because it seemed like the baggie I put it all in had a few more things in it than just what I mentioned! Good thing my mom is nurse, I'm very paranoid about one of us getting sick away from home so I feel better knowing she will be there. :goodvibes

Sorry forgot to add this to my post...has anyone ever heard of Be Cool Patches? I think that's what they are called. They are used for fevers. I read on here a long time ago about someone getting them and using them in Disney on certain parts of the body because they help keep you cool. Kind of the same idea as using motion sickness bands on pressure points. My mom said in the hospital if they had to quickly cool someone down they would use cold compresses on the wrists, back of the neck and under the b**bs for the ladies. I have looked all over for them because I hate having anything on my neck and don't want to walk around with one of those neckerchiefs! I can't find anything remotely close to them anywhere. :confused3

It looks like everything has been covered, but I'd suggest WATERPROOF band-aids (they have lots of Disney designs!). Regular band-aids don't hold up well in hot, sweaty conditions, especially if you add in fountains and the resort pool.

I found some of these cool patches for last trip but they are very messy.
They are made of some type of blue gel and for some reason they start
falling apart on your neck and it's a mess.
I will be bringing ziploc bags and asking for ice (cup of ice) to put in the ziploc for cooling down on our next trip. That was the only thing that help my DS who got a touch of heatstroke on our last trip. Whenever the ice melts justpour out the water and get more ice.

Our list of OTCM/medical related items that we bring are:

Dramamine
Motrin
Tylenol
Gluclose Tabs
Cough Drops
Tums
Fully stocked first-aid kit (includes all types of ointments, wraps, band-aids, ect...)

Motrin/Tylenol
Benadryl
Claritin
Cough Suppresent
Feverall (Tylenol Suppositories)
Neosporin
Constipation - Miralax
Cold/Cough
Hydrocortizone Lotion
Aquaphor
Mylanta

Definitely cough suppressant. Someone in my family always develops a cough on vacation....on one trip to Disney, I had to buy Robitussin in the gift shop of All Star Movies. $8 for a very small bottle!!

Hmmm...I never travel without Tylenol, Imodium, Tums, and Benedryl, either!

I bring the following....

Motrin
Tylenol
Childrens Motrin
Childrens Tylenol
Infants Motrin
Infants Tylenol
Neosporin/band aids
Usually I have some itch meds for mosquito bites
Miralax....for DD4's "issues" LOL
Prednisolone in case DD17 months get yet ANOTHER bout of croup
Suppositories.....again, in case DD4 has "issues"

moleskin - don't forget some moleskin just in case you have some shoe rubs

as far as OTC - I am an RN - I don't try to bring a pharmacy - chances are you won't use 99% of what you bring. With airline restrictions its just not worth bringing all that stuff. You can always get those items IF IF IF you need them - you prob won't!!

I always take Tylenol (adult and child) and decongestant (adult and child) dramamine or bonine (non drowsy) if you have one of those sensitive people with you. That is it - no cough meds, pepto, immodium, tums---> you can always get it there if you need it - they are not priority meds like anti-fever meds - JMHO. You will stress yourself out if you try to cover any symptom you might experience.

other things I am sure to take:first aid supplies of course as well as anti-itch cream, zinc oxide cream and antifungal powder for the athletes in my family

I have a cool little case with about 8 compartments in it. I take everything in pill form--no liquids to worry about. For the kids I bring Children's Pepto and the Tylenol meltaways and the Triaminic cough strips. For DH and I, I bring Tums, Pepto, Immodium (I have all kinds of travel tummy issues), Ibuprofen. I used a sticker to label each compartment w/ the medication name and the dosing information. Then I've got everything I need in a box that is not much bigger than a cell phone!

I know this isn't a med but don't forget a thermometer!! My 2yr old was so sick when we went to disney last summer and I had to run out and buy a thermometer for some ridiculous price when I had 2 at home.

I take the minimum I can get by with. If we have to buy something, we just do. When DS was 9mo old we took him to WDW for the 1st time. He had some terrible allergy problems the first few days. I called his pediatrician and she recommended a specific OTC allergy med which was not available in the gift shops. I went by the first aid station in the park and they had a flier for a pharmacy delivery service. For $5 they would deliver the specific med to the resort we were staying at. They left it at the front desk for us, and the cost was charged to the room. It was so easy and WELL WORTH the $5. The medicine was not overpriced, either, compared to what we could get it for at home.

Ok, well in that case I think I'll just give up looking for them! I like that ice in a ziploc idea though, I'll have to write that down on my list. Thanks!:thumbsup2

Always take allergy meds, itch creams, neosporin, cold meds, stomach relief(alka-seltzer,tums,malox).It's easier to have it, than to look for it or pay extra at the resorts.
