Since I am going solo this trip I am trying to get away with only carry ons

My question is is there anywhere on disney property (Hess? Screen Door) etc that I can by things like shampoo and conditioner since I can't take these bigger items on the plane. I know disney has them in the rooms but that stuff turns my hair to a rats nest so hoping to just buy some toiletries there.

Thanks

Kim

Many of us are in the same boat. There are several grocery stores and pharmacies in the Disney area. However, most are not within walking distance. For that reason I usually rent a car. Would be glad to give a lift to any runner that needs one.

Well in 2012 for the Relay, I bought Herbal Essences travel size shampoo and conditioner from the POP gift shop.

I mixed a few brands from home and put them through with my checked luggage. When unpacking, it appeared like a science experiment and was in pure liquid form. That wouldn't work for me. So I checked the gift shop and sure enough, they saved me. Pricey, yes. But with no rental car (my one and only trip w/o one!) I didn't have a choice!

How long will you be there? I buy 100ml (3.4oz, which is the actual size limit of each bottle in a "3"11 Baggie) bottles labelled with that volume, and decant the products I use into them. So I have my aveda and a bottle or two of sunscreen, etc in my Baggie in my carryon. I bought a little squeezey Toobz bottle to put my hair goop in too, as aveda wanted a gazillion bucks for a travel sized option. 100ml is actually a good amount, and you can take as many bottles of that size as you can fit in your quart sized ziptop bag.

One can definitely purchase the generic 3.4 oz bottles and toss them on the way home.

In answer to the specific question, all resorts have a toiletries section within their property. You may not have the exact brand but they do have up scale toiletries.

If that does not work, there is a HESS across from DTD and one across from the Boardwalk, though I am not sure that these stores carry these things. There is a Goodings at the far end of Hotel Plaza. And finally, I believe MCO has a small store with toiletries on the land side; outside security.

Basin has shampoo bars and conditioner bars. i bought some on our last trip because i'd forgotten my shampoo & conditioner.

They do sell toiletries there but as mentioned, perhaps not your brand...

So this is what I would do if I were you (since I used to travel for a living once upon a time)

Buy what you need at Orlando airport when you arrive. They have tons of shops and surely some shop there (they are pretty much owned by the same company but they do differ a bit) will have something you would like..yes at a higher price of course.

Or go to CVS and buy the tiny travel size products (I think they might be okay but do not know the EXACT weight of travel bottles) and stuff them into your shoes that you pack ...not your running shoes though because remember full bottles in a plane will expand and may leak...so you might want to empty some out of it before you travel or put them in a baggy and then into your shoes.

Disney stores sell shampoos but I don't like what they sell.

Some stores (like Sephora) sell some brands of shampoo/conditioner in a travel pack...they are in little bags like tea bags that are designed for travel.

I used to be such an expert at packing everything into a carry on bag! Not anymore though...but I still recall all the things I did....

Thanks all. I can only bring 1 baggie in my carry on and have other liquids I need to bring as well. So can't bring much more then 1 little travel size conditioner and I will need more then that. I am there for 6 days, at least 7 showers and like I said I NEEEDDDD conditioner..I have thin ratty hair. Not really worried about my brand just getting a good one.

I have been to Screen Door and Hess many times just never looking for toiletries. I was even thinking I might walk out to Goodies out through DTD I have driven it before but not sure how long the walk it.....off to check mapquest :)

Thanks for all the input

Goodings is less then 2 kms from DTD....awesome!!!!!!!!

I know it is more expensive there if I was getting a bunch of stuff but for 1 or 2 things good to go!!!!

Thanks again

One other option is to buy what you need at home and mail it to yourself at Disney using one of the USPS flat rate boxes. You can stuff a lot into them, and there's generally no weight limit. Or order it through Amazon or drugstore.com & have it shipped to you at your resort.

How well would the USPS boxes work though? Since all the mail (used to at least) just goto a main WDW mail area, not the actual hotels? If you UPS or FEDEX then I think it goes right to the resort. If you USPS it how much extra time should you allow?

If H2O, which many people consider to be a good brand, turns your hair into a rat's nest, you seem to have hair as finicky as mine. My hair despises H2O! It would rather have cheapie Suave.

Coming from Canada might be different, but with TSA if the other liquids are medications those can be kept separate from the 311 baggie.

Maybe a few days? If you're worried, you might be better off with UPS and an order from Amazon. Or just buying what you need when you're there.

Hockeychic, there's also a WinnDixie supermarket 1 km (okay, 1.20 km) further up that road (just copy these coordinates in to google maps or google earth:
28°23'33.12"N 81°30'16.55"W.

They have a larger selection and better prices than Goodings.
Also, at customer service you can sign up & get a free customer loyalty card on the spot.

In November, I strolled up there from DTD, did my grocery run (fruit, veggies, beer, water), and then called a MEARS cab to get back to resort Port Orleans French Quarter.
Cab ride cost $13 (not counting tip). ........I saved more than that!:thumbsup2
