We're getting close to our HHI trip. We're driving, with our daughter and SiL plus a 5YO and a 9YO granddaughter. We've gotten to be experts at what to bring to WDW, but what other kinds of stuff should we bring for a beach vacation? Chairs? Towels? Any other beach-y kinds of things worth bringing?

Yes, definitely bring the beach towels and chairs, as well as some sand toys for the kids. You can rent the chairs there, but it is pricey.

You may also want to bring along a small cooler so you can bring sandwiches and/or drinks down to the beach with you.

We tend to spend more time in the room at HH than we do at WDW, so something to amuse the kids might be a good idea too.

Hope you have a wonderful time!!

We found out on a rainy day that the front desk has a game closet. We were able to select a couple of board games to use during our stay. We returned them upon checkout.

My DS8 loves to use a boogie board at the beach. We bought it down there at either Target or WalMart. Target's not on the island, it's a good drive from the resort so if that's your preference, you might want to stop on the way in. Anyway, it's kind of like a surf board with a line attached to the board on one end and a valcro closure for his wrist. He enjoyed riding it in the waves. Definately tires him out.

Bike rental is available from the resort. We always get the length of stay package -- $50 for the first 2 bikes and I think $10 for the additional ones. We find we get our moneys worth out of it.

As for the villas, we bring our crock pot to cook a couple of meals in. Put everything in the morning, dinner is ready when we return. The other thing I bring is a good non stick fry pan. The one in the villa just doesn't cut it.

Have a great trip!!

I thought of something else -- not along the lines of packing but when your at Hilton Head.

We enjoyed the hike arranged through Disney around Pinckney Island. Although it was hot the day we did it, we saw some awesome sights of birds by the pond just sitting in the trees. Huge birds - native to the area. We also saw an adult alligator and a young alligator in the pond. It was something we hope to enjoy again in the future.

If you are renting bikes for the little ones, I would bring along their bike helmets from home. They seem to always fit better.

And binoculars...we wish we had them for some marsh viewing this June.

Those are some good tips. Bringing the helmets makes perfect sense, and we never would have thought of it. Same with the cooler.

Any others?

On our trip to Vero Beach last year, we did not pack all the sand buckets, shovels, etc. When we got there we went to a Everything's A Dollar store about bought about five or six dollars worth. Played with them on the beach for our trip, and on the last day walked over and gave them to some little kids that had just arrived without any toys.

At HHI there is one of those Everything's A Dollar type stores in the same complex as Walmart, across the parking lot by the grocery store and cut rate book store.

Just an idea...less packing both ways, and no sand rolling around the trunk or floorboard for the next year.
