Packing food to take with us....

each day I brought a soft sided cooler that I packed with water, juice boxes and ice. Had nice cold drinks all day long. We packed some peanut butter crackers and raisins and a few candy items. It worked out great. We are probably going to use ME our next trip, so I am looking into getting a delivery from one of those shopping services for milk, juice etc....

I always take a soft-sided cooler. The first day at the park we purchase a Dasani water for everyone. Later that night I fill the empty water bottle with bottled water half way and freeze it. The next morning I fill the rest of the bottle with water and the bottle stays cold all day. I also rap the bottle with washcloths so that when we can hot we can just take out the cold washcloth and put it on our necks to cool off.

I freeze about 3 inches of water--or Crystal Lite, tea, lemonade, Hawaiian Punch etc-- in our water bottles, then top off with water before we leave for the parks.
I also bought--sorry, can't remember where from--freezable drinking tops. They are meant to fit into water drinking bottles. They have a long tube attached which freezes & keeps your drink cold for at least a few hours. this & an insulating sleeve work well.
we like some Kool-Aid, Tang, tea mix, powdered milk for variety

As for the room: I bring muffin orbread/ cake mixes, muffin papers--some do not need muffin tins. Nice for breakfasts or snacks.

Does the Country Time lemonade in the individual packets not have artificial sweeters? I can't have any artificial sweeteners due to migraines, so this would be great. I think the Kool-Aid packets have some sort of artificial sweeteners. The only drink mix packages that I have found so far without any artificial sweeteners is the Gatorade packages.

Yes, the Kool Aid ones do have some artificial sweetener in them along with some reg sugar. I too have headache and other issues with aspartame, but I am fine with the Kool Aid ones and my kids did not say a word regarding taste so they don't taste diet-y like some of the others. (I personally cannot stand Crystal Light) Don't know about the Country Time ones, sorry.

As for the person asking about the water--you can get not only free ice in a cup, but also can get free ice water. That is what I did our last trip and then just added the Kool Aid packets. Make sure to ask for a kids ice water though or they are very generous and give you the regular drink sized glasses and that is waaaayyyy to much water for those little packets!

Hit the SuperTarget as soon as we are in Orlando to get milk, cereal, snacks including chips and crackers, boxed raisins, fruit like bananas and apples, cheese, bagels and cream cheese. Also a case of water and maybe a 6-pack of soda. I find having 1-2 bottles of cold water along to be very useful. I did not think the local water tasted bad on this past trip.

Shagley:

I'm looking at my country time lemonade box and the sweeteners are sugar and sucralose (I have no idea what this is). I'm just hoping I don't mind the taste of it. I'm sure someone on these boards knows. I just don't like the taste of aspartame or splenda. Major ICK!

I thought I looked at the Kool-aid and don't remember it mentioned being sweetened with aritficial sweeteners. I have to go back to the grocery store tonight-I'll double check. My little nothing of a small town grocer carries them so I'm sure you can pick it up at your local grocer too.

Hope that helps. I'm glad they started making these with plain old sugar.

Does anyone know if they sell cups of ice at the counter services at the resorts? If so,how much will that cost us! My kids LOVE crystal light lemonade but im sure the water will get warm by midday but maybe we could get a cup of ice and cram it into our water bottles. or i am debating on those cups they sell now at Wally World with the deal that goes down the middle of the cup that is ice,you freeze the middle section then insert into cup and it is supposed to chill your drink. Not sure though.LOL.

I think cups of ice water are free

and Wal-mart sells their brand of Crystal Light packets for even cheaper! My daughter can't drink OJ but loves the Sunrise flavor Wal-mart brand!

I always bring granola bars, a few packets of the 4C iced tea mix (like crystal lite- sweetened with I think Splenda), my mint herbal tea bags and a handful of honey packets that I save from fast food places.

I like my regular tea and it's not always available when I'm traveling, and herbal tea tastes sooo good with honey! In cooler months I'll also throw a few packets of hot chocolate in the bag- DH doesn't drink coffee or tea but sometimes likes a hot drink in the room with me.

I have also been known to bring a small "water" bottle with us that smells suspiciously like coconut rum for a little evening "thirst quenching" in the room after a long day at the parks. I'm not a big drinker (except when I'm at Epcot) and sometimes I just like a simple drink, not one of the crazy fruity frozen things you get at PI or the resort restaurants.

Breathmints and lifesavers also come with us.

Other than that, we buy most of our food there. When we stay offsite we do a small grocery stop, but if we're on site, we like the food so we don't bring too much with us.

DisneyMom3: are you saying this sucralose is an aritficial sweetener? The Kool-Aid packets have the same thing in it as the CT lemonade. Sugar and sucralose. No aspartame or splenda.

Back to the OP's subject.........................

Sucralose = Splenda

Or, technically, Spelenda = sucralose. Like Kleenex is a brand of tissues.

At what age do you guys let your kids have artificial sweeteners? mine are 5 & 2 and I have not even considered it. They drink milk, water, juice and sometimes sugary drinks like lemonade. The packets sound convenient, but I'm hesitant because of the sweeteners.

I'll check out the gatorade ones.

They have those new boxes at USPS that are flat rate of $8.20 doesn't matter how much it weighs....I love the idea of those single pack things to put in water bottles (hadn't thought of that), but my kids are big apple juice drinkers so I was thinking of packing one of those boxes filled juice boxes and shipping it ahead? I also pack cereal, breakfast bars and some snack type indv. packaged items to throw in our bag each day in our carryon. With the meal plan I don't feel like I have to have a huge breakfast each day...

I would like to know how one goes about this... It sounds like a nice idea to ship ahead, but how do you know when it will get there, or what do you do about it getting there ahead of you? :teleport:

The Resorts have Ice Machines so Ice is not a problem. The parks have free ice water. You can buy a large water container with a strap from walmart & fill it with ice & what ever you want to drink in your rooms. DH wears it for us.

these are really great and smart ideas, i normally shop when i get to fl at the publix but i get snacks for the plane

We are taking Jerkey and homemade Trail mix. The kids love it when they get to put in their favorites!!! :)

We usually bring a ton of snacks, whether we fly or drive. Of course it is easier to bring DH's daily mass consumption of Coke when we drive down! ;)
We've done:
granola bars, cans of chips, candy bars, trail mix, bagels & cream cheese (and a $6 toaster from Walmart :teeth: ), cookies, Ritz Bits ( my 3 1/2 yr old lives on these), cereal, juice boxes, water bottles, pretzles, Cheez-its, fruit and grain bars, gum, mints, doughnuts, Combos, and lots of other stuff I can't remember right now.

We always bring a soft sided cooler to the parks and have never been told we can't bring our drinks or snacks into the park. I don't think they really care about the food. :) We buy our weight in funnel cakes alone to pay a secruity guards salary for a day!! :rotfl2:

We went for a week in July 2003 and are returning for a week in June -
Here are the things we brought last time and will bring again - (keep in mind we drove but I'm sure a grocery pickup stop would work too).
We drive too, and we definitely feel like we have to bring more because we're driving and it's easier to snack/eat in the car than stopping and wasting time we could have at Orlando!

We don't bring the breakfast stuff, not really a breakfast person personally. We do sandwiches and stuff for the way to Orlando, candy etc. Definitely soda and water, lots of it, for the trip up and while we're there .. I lugged our cooler to our hotel room last time.
