Has anyone had trouble packing food in their suitcases?

I was wanting to try and cut down on food costs without having
to go to the grocery store while at Disney.

I was wanting to pack the following in one small case:

Peanut butter
Pop tarts
Breakfast bars
Gold fish
plastic utinsils
paperplates

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do it all the time. Never a problem. Afraid I don't have any suggestions. We generally bring the stuff we purchased at WDW back home with us.

Wet wipes
Peanut butter/cheese crackers
Gum (somewhere I think I read they don't sell gum on property)
Cookies in individual bags (like for lunches)

Llunch size bags of chips are handy for parks and can be tucked in carryons and checked luggage. Sometimes in Fla, I find I need a little salt, LOL.

herc.

I also bring cereal in plastic sandwich containers and plastic bowls. My DS loves cereal and wants that for breakfast. I like bagles so I bring those for me. Last year I brought some fruit too. :earsgirl:

I do it all the time too. Be careful to pack Nutrigrain bars and "soft" items carefully...I arrived at WDW with several squished Nutrigrain bars last trip!

I also bring along some empty sandwich sized ziploc bags, so I can "divy up" the snacks for my kids instead of them sharing one big bag of Goldfish (that always turns into a disaster! :p )

Have a great trip!

Canned Fruit-those that are in individual little containers-good for breakfast or for a snack.
If you have a coffee maker in your room to make hot water-you can get those packages of instant soup or instant cup o'noodles-the noodles are a bit bulky.
Dried Nuts and Fruits.
Disney Fruit Snacks.

If you take these items out of their original packaging and put them in large ziplock bags, that will save you alot of space, and you can later use the ziplock bags.

We also bring snacks in our luggage. Another item that you may want to include is some juice boxes. I put everything in ziploc bags to prevent getting clothes dirty in case something opens up. I also put items that can get crushed in gladware containers.

I do this too. If you are going to have a fridge you could pack a pitcher and some pre-sweetened drink mix. I did this when we went to California and it worked out fine (I included a long plastic spoon to stir).

If you fly, apparently food has a pretty high chance of showing up as potential bomb residue in the screening machines. You'll still get your suitcase with your food, but there's a higher than normal chance that you'll make it to Orlando before your suitcase because of the extra screening. If you can manage it, it's better to pack food in your carry-on.

Oh thanks for the tip! When I took the pitcher and drink mix before it was in 1998. Now I did take some oatmeal and poptarts in my suitcase to Orlando this past September.

I had more problems with my wet swimsuits on the way back from our Disney Cruise. I put all our wet things in ziplock bags. The opened every one of these bags (apparently) and forgot to rezip them and by the time we got home everything in the suitcase was WET! I was not happy!

So I guess I won't be taking powder drink mix with me next time we fly.

We had a suitcase opened at Christmastime because I had packed boy scout popcorn for my in-laws. It was not a big problem, they just opened, looked, and sent it on its way. Of course, we were at the airport about 2 hours before the flight, so there was lots of time. I have had juice boxes leak before, so I tend to pack food only in one suitcase, separate from everything else.

I pack food every year to take with us in a suitcase. I put pop tarts, cheese and crackers, pretzels , licorice, skittles, pringles, corn chips, capri suns, raisins a few paper plate, plastic ware plastic baggies large, small snack baggies.

Although I will say I don't pack alot of every thing. Just enough to put in our fanny packs and something to snack on in the room. Then when we get ready to return home I use the suitcase I brought food in to take home the souvinirs. Works out well.

The key is put every thing you want in the suitcase. Look in it for a minute then take half of it back out. The key is only take what you would reasonable use with no leftovers to bring home.

After you pack for a couple of trips this task will become second nature.

Isn't it sad when you come right down to it that some of us (us included) have to go to extreme's like packing a suit case with food in order to budget for a trip to Disney. How can Disney get away with charging their outrageous prices? Here we are trying to do something nice for our children and have to practically re-mortgage the house in order to afford a vacation that is over in the blink of an eye.

By the way we are packing a suit case with some food too! LMAO

I'm taking food with us on our next trip, but I don't think disney prices are outrageous.

I end up spending less on food there, than I will at a sporting event or going out to dinner here.

I take the food so that my son and I will have snacks in the room.

On our last trip I took food with us into the parks. Each day we would end up taking the food back to the room. There were just to many great things to eat in the parks. We didn't want the things we have at home everyday.

The only things we normally take are microwave popcorn, juice boxes and a few granola type bars. A couple of apples for the plane ride. DH takes his Atkins bars.

I just shipped a box of snacks-chips, cookies packs, gummy candy, small bags of peanuts and gum via UPS today. It cost $12 and they cushioned it well. It will be there in 2 days waiting for us.
I know that sounds like a lot but I it is for two teenage boys!
