Can I pack a suitcase with bottled water , chips, rice krispie treats in checked luggage? Not sure if that is allowed. We are having a towncar pickup but thought I might get the items cheaper here at our local dollar store. I will need to pack approx 56 bottles of water. Has anyone done this before or would it just be better to have grocery stop?

I have always packed one suitcase with food only. However I would not pack liquids unless I can put them in a ziplock bag. Then I have an empty suitcase for dirty clothes or souvenirs when I come home. This year I am even packing a small george forman so I can do some grilled sandwiches in our studio. When we stay in a villa i even pack pre measured items needed for choc chip cookies, or throw in a box of brownies. I am spoiled with a villa. I love fresh cooked desserts and meals.

It's OK, but that water might cost you more than you save. There is a weight limit on luggage, go over 70# (for SWA) and you will pay a $25 weight charge on that bag.

If you were bringing 6 bottles, that wouldn't be a big deal, but over 50 of them? Also, you really should not pack liquids in a softside suitcase; for a quantity like that, it would be important to put them in a hardside or an ice chest (inside a trash bag) and pack towels around them in case they leak. Luggage gets tossed around quite a bit. If you pack liquids that leak all over other passengers' bags, you'll be VERY embarrassed, and could even be charged for it.

Personally, I wouldn't chance packing water. The rest is fine to pack, but I'd get the water in Orlando. You can get the cheaper brands of bottled water at your grocery stop for around $.25/bottle, purchased by the case. Or you could bring Brita filter bottles from home; those could be possibly even cheaper (~$5/ea at Walmart), and certainly less hassle to carry around the parks.

I pack food in my suitcase all the time. It is not forbidden. As to the water, I totally agree with NotUrsula. Water in FL is very inexpensive. BTW, I only pack things I know I cannot get in FL.
On the way home, I pack everything I have not used and do not wish to toss away.

I always pack food, but I put them in large tuperware type containers, so stuff doesn't get squashed. Like muffins and poptarts.

As far as the water goes, you could always buy gallons of water when you get there and keep refilling your water bottles.

Or if you didn't want to make a stop, you could always ship them to your hotel ahead of time.

I agree with everyone else about the water. We packed an entire suitcase of tuna, crackers, snacks, drink mixes, pb & j, etc then picked up bread, and water at the grocery store on the way in. Much easier! I don't know if it was random or just the way the suitcase went through x-ray but our "food suitcase" was inspected by TSA. No problems, just found the tag inside when we opened it up. Maybe they were just hungry! ;)
