Packing food from the ship to take on shore??

My son has food allergies and I was hoping to order allergy friendly food on the ship to pack and take ashore when we are in ports.

Has anyone taken food off the ship? Any issues? I know they are funny about food coming back on the ship - if he doesn’t eat it all so I need to trash it before trying to reboad?

We are leaving straight from port to drive 13 hours home and was thinking to pack him things from the ship for the drive home too. Any issue?

As long as it's factory sealed items you can take them on and off the ship. I'd bring some stuff from home that you know is safe. There's not too much that's sealed on the ship other than mini cereal boxes and chips. (And depending upon his allergies, possibly a PBJ Uncrustable from room service if you ask for them to keep it sealed.)

our son has food allergies as well and we didn’t bring anything off the ship that wasn’t factory sealed. They have well trained dogs (those dogs can even sniff each ingredient in a dish). I would not try to circumvent those restrictions, there are heavy fines to be paid (thousands of dollars). They’re there for a reason (small insects/bugs can actually destroy crops).

He did have to go hungry at lunch on debarkation day (had some Frosted Flakes in soy milk for breakfast at Animator’s palate) as they closed down the Mexican restaurant at the airport food court and he couldn’t have anything else (he has milk, egg, cashews, kiwi sesame allergies). He ate fries and drank some juice. We purchased Oreos in the flight. We bought a banana once we got off the flight. He didn’t have much other than that until we got to chipotle around 6:30-7:00 pm.

It’s not being “funny.” Insects and other organisms sometimes hitch hike on foods we eat. Some of these can completely and permanently wipe out local crops or present risks to local species. You might very well think of it as an allergy, except instead of a single individual being affected, if is the entire ecosystem. Ensure no pests or other risks get ashore is very similar to your interest in providing food your child can safely consume.

Another thought is to research the restaurants at each port. Some might be able to accommodate allergies. In Mexico we were able to get grilled fish, rice, guacamole with chips that were safe. I also carry ripple tetra pack shelf stable milk with me.

On debarkation day you can just make one stop to a restaurant or Whole Foods that has allergy safe foods and then continue traveling. We’ve had flight cancellations where we had to suddenly drive 20+ hrs back home and rent a car at the airport (4-5 hr wait for rental car). First thing we did is go to a Walmart to get car seats and drinks and then Whole Foods to get vegan food/vegan shelf stable milk for our son.

I have Dr kids premeasured antihistamine and medication tubes
