Thinking about getting fanny packs for my two girls. What are some things that you have your kids keep in them? They will be 4 and 5 so maybe they will be too young for them?

Thanks:lovestruc

Each of my kids had one at age 5 for our last trip. They mainly used them for ID tags (in case they got lost!), autograph pens, disposable cameras, tissues and lip balm.

my kids had them and they had sun glasses , misting fand , lip balm, and thier cell phones..and whatever else they kept..my 4 yr old doesnt have a cell phone but he kept all other things

my dd, when she was around 5 or 6yo, LOVED wearing her fanny pack. she had bandaids, purell, tiny packet of wipes, chapstick, sunglasses, pins, her camera, extra ponytails, tic tacs, park map and schedule and a couple of disney dollars. she really enjoyed feeling like she had 'stuff'... if i got hurt, she'd whip out a bandaid; she'd get her purell for us both whenever she thought we needed it; "hey mom, you need some chapstick!" It was fun for us both!

My son always carried an SPF face stick. It serves as lip balm and sun screen. He carries a small snack sized baggie with 3-4 wet wipes and a small anti-bacterial gel, sunglasses, and atravel sized 20 question video game. We love playing it as a family while we wait in line. He can also play it by himself quietly. When he was a bit younger he had a travel sized simon, the mimic game which had a silent setting.

We don't allow the expensive hand held video games to come into the park, we are far too rambunctious and in way too much water. If his $10 game gets damaged, it isn't that great of a loss.

If we were there during hot weather we add a frozen Roaring Waters drink. They are low on sugar, don't have artificial colors, and it acts as a coolant until it thaws and he drinks it.

He also carried a small snack baggie with a healthy snack. Raisins, nuts, dried fruit, or cheese (during cooler weather).

We brought a big bag with us to the hotel with fruit snacks, granola bars, etc. They got to put 2 each day (their choice) in their fanny pack and eat them whenever they wanted. We bought very few overpriced snacks, and there was no fussing about wanting them.

They also had their autograph book and pen, sunglasses, and whatever few small items they thought were necessary. They were 5/8.

Okay...really silly question but where do you buy your fanny packs?

I would love to get them for my kids but I don't want to break the bank on them in case they hate the idea.

There are very small ones for $4.95, and slightly large ones for $5.95.
(I got my 10 year old the larger one, and the 8 and5 year olds the smaller ones.)

ours were about $5 at Walmart. Plain pink and blue. They were a bit big for the kids but we just tied a knot in the straps. They had no problem carrying them around the parks.

In theory it is a great idea....in practice, it may make you crazy to keep track of all that extra stuff. I just put the autograph books and pens in ziplocks in the stroller.

We have our kids carry their fanny packs too. It cuts back on all the clutter we put in one big bag. They carry: camera, ticket, money, disposable rain poncho, and snack (beef jerky or snack bar).

Life was so much easier without the back-pack (that I always ended up carrying) and my back felt better. We didn't need all that extra stuff anyway - left it in the room and could go back if needed (never did). If we still had a stroller then it would be different but we are happily past that!

My dd was 4 last year and she really enjoyed carrying her own fanny pack. She had lip balm, a tiny tube of sun screen, sun glasses, and her poncho.

Kids love to have their own stuff! This also helps pass the time in lines. The more they have to look at and play with the better! We always stick a mini bottle of bubbles in, too!

I figured I wasn't going to get fanny packs for the kids, but after reading these posts, I think i'm going to. My 2 youngest I know will like to carry their own stuff.:thumbsup2
I have one, my friends make fun of me, I have to take it everywhere. I am the fanny pack queen!

I bought our fanny packs at the dollar store: cinderella for DD4 and nemo for DS1. They are very small (both the belt size and the ouch itself), but perfect for the ages of our kids. They probably won't want them on all the time, but I figure it at least gives them something to play with for a while and hey, they only cost a buck!
