Packing boxed wine?

I read a post somewhere where the person said they had packed wine in their luggage (can't find it now)...this led me to thinking that since 8 of us are going (4 adults) it would be so nice at the end of the night when the kids are tucked into bed we could all relax with a glass of wine and plan our next days adventures. :)

Last time we went I packed one suitcase with some food things including boxes of juice packets and it made it through the flight just fine. Is it possible if I pack one of those wine box things in my suitcase it would be okay and is this allowable by the airlines? :p This would also leave extra room on the way back for our Disney Loot!!!

Has anyone done this? Am I crazy to even try...it sure would be a nice treat for us though since we can't exactly leave the kids alone and hit the lounges. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! I'm so excited...Disney here we come!!!

Never taken the box-o-wine before but I pack wine in my suitcase all the time (so it may have been me who wrote the post you're referring to :) )
I would guess that as long as you take the same precautions that you would normally (double bagging it in something, packing stuff around it, etc) it shoud get to your destination just fine.

Fabulous Idea!!!! Our local Target has boxed chardonnay, in I would say, an 8x8x8 square box??? It is nice to relax with a glass of vino on the balcony after a day in the parks....and not have to spend $$$$$$$$$$ on room service vino (probably close to the same stuff!!) Brilliant Idea!!! :dance3:

Good question! Sorry I do not know for sure but I think you can. My MIL just came back from Italy with wine.

We always send a box down to our hotel. I wrapped our wine in beach towels and havent ever had a problem.

Hey, don't knock it 'til you've tried it! Several wineries package the same wine they sell in bottles in a three-bottle equivalent "cask." It's cheaper and it lasts longer, but it's the same wine. I'm particularly fond of the Banrock Station Shiraz cask, myself. I think I'll have to look into packing one!

I like the San Francisco Gate's wine columnists take on it:
Dear, sweet America! You watch "Desperate Housewives" every week, but you're too sophisticated to drink perfectly good wine that comes packaged in cardboard?
:rotfl:

I have to say, though, do not allow yourself to be swayed by the Target Wine Cube Red Sangria. It's just... not good.
