I am beginning to pack books for our upcoming move. Some of my books are pretty valuable, and all of them are important. Should I pack them vertically or stack them in the boxes? TIA :)

When we moved I packed them vertically. Get small boxes because they get pretty heavy. Good luck.

Thanks CEDmom. Fortunately, I won't be lifting the boxes, only packing them :) Any other opinions or options?

NOT vertically. Our movers packed some of our hardcovers vertically and every one came out with a cracked spine. All the other moves they've been stacked and we haven't had a problem. (And we're talking 15+ boxes of books....)

We moved MANY boxes of books to Florida a few years ago, and then to our new house last year. We stacked them, and then put less valuable, softer books vertically in the gap between the books and the side of the box.

It worked well!
