Packing a toaster?

Anybody out there ever packed a toaster & bread? I'm thinking of buying an cheap toaster and leaving it in the box and chucking it right in the suitcase. I think I can put some slices of bread in a container, bring a plastic knife, and a jar of peanut butter, and voila! Breakfast!

Many of the food courts have toasters. Find out if your hotel offers one. Then you wouldn't have to buy a toaster.

If you're staying at a Disney resort, they all have toasters and microwaves, either at the foodcourt for values and mods, or the counter services/general store at the deluxes.

You can use those with your own bread. The food courts also sell pieces of bread if you don't want to bring your own.

They also have hot water taps that you can use - they're really hot too!

If you want a good laugh go to the Resorts board and do a search for "toaster". There was a thread called something like "I'm bringing a cot and toaster to ASSP" It actually had to be locked because poeple got so "excited" about someone bringing a toaster into a room! It really is a hoot. Sorry I don't know how to link a thread or I would have done it for you. Be grateful you didn't post this on that board!!

We just returned from POR and I just wrapped my toaster in a wal-mart sack to keep it contained and keep crumbs off of the other stuff and put it in my suitcase with everything else.....and I mean EVERYTHING ELSE! We used it for pop-tarts a couple of days. No big deal and we definitely could have lived without it, but if you are planning on toast and pop-tarts for several days it was no problem to bring it!

Warning, this is one of those subjects on the DIS that gets very heated...the reason, Disney resort rooms are not meant to have electronics like toaster, microwaves, grills and it's because of fire hazards and not to mention the smells if making a full meal.

Anyway, just wanted to warn you.

The food courts do have microwaves and toasters you can use, On occasion when my DD gets picky about dinner I would make a quick mac and cheese, and no fighting for dinner and everyone was happy!!!!

Just be glad you didn't ask this question on the Budget Board or the Restaurant board...I don't think you're getting quite as much exposure here on the family board!

You guys/gals on the family board sure are nice. When I saw the title I was all expecting to see some ugly things, but instead found a nice surprise. Nice people answering an honest question without flames. I might have to stick around for a while

That reminded me about the cruise boards when someone suggested lighting a candle in their stateroom for room fragrance. Eek, an open flame on a cruise ship!

I wasn't going to pack a toaster, but it is good to know the foodcourts have toasters. My DH and DS were planning on Poptarts and were just going to suffer and eat them cold, but it's nice to know we'll have them supplied in the foodcourt.

What cracks me up about the people who get their boxers in a wad over toasters in the room is they forget about the amps a blowdryer puts out. How about that coffee maker or the iron or the frig Disney will charge you $10/day for? All of these are fire hazzards, too. It's more about smell and mess. If you encourage people to prepare food in the rooms your food service gets less business, and your hotel room is more likely to need new linens and carpeting faster from spills.

To take bread, get a clear plastic box from Walmart, and put the whole loaf inside it. When you come home, that box will be there to protect fragile souvies. I've used shoe boxes and plastic boxes to protect food, hair bows, purses, etc.

Take your toaster with pride, but keep those candles off the ships! (Navy husband is on firefighting squad.)

BTW - I'm sending my in-laws with our spare microwave when they go to Disney over Thanksgiving. They're staying with us a few days then we're all going down together, but we have an accomodation with a full kitchen.
