Hi All, I am new here. I am trying to plan our first trip to Disney!!! YEAH!!!
Anyways, I am so overwhelmed and have so many questions.

I will be travellling with my DS who is 11. Since I am a single parent and the thought of travelling internationally alone terrifies me, another single mom I know thought we could go together. The question is, can we book a package deal together, but separate rooms? Can we book a package deal with two moms and one DS 11, and one girl 8?

We would book MYW with PH & more for 10 days at a value resort with DDP for all. Evertime I try to do a quote online it says I do not have the right mix of adults/children??
I don't really think te DDP would be worth it for my son since he eats very little but am willing to do it anyway, even though i will pay the adult cost for him. I think it will be worth it to trade for the Character meals and shows, etc.

The other worry is the timeframe. We were looking at mid June for the weather hoping it will not be quite as hot, but now are considering mid Aug due to value season, but we are both worried about hurricane season. Is there any difference in heat/crowds in mid June as opposed to mid August??

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know where to start, as I am so excited.

Thanks

Hi Brighteyes,
Don't worry about travel alone with your son. My DD (10 at the time and now 12) and I (a another single parent) went to Disney by ourselves during Christmas 05 - New Years 06. :goodvibes Drove from Kingston to Syracuse and flu from there to MCO. Had a wonderful time and at no time was made to feel uncomfortable traveling alone with my daughter. It was kind of a "bonding" experience. You will have so much fun with your son.
That being said, we have planned another visit with a fellow single mom and her DD12- her DD and my DD are really good friends. We had to each call WDW and make our own reservations as we are at the same resort but different rooms. Sharing a room, In my opinion, was out of the question. We were told when we called that there is not guarentee that we would be next to each other but that is ok with us as we are there for 2 weeks an will have separate stuff planned as well. We are at the same resort and that is close enough. I would think the reason you have to book separately is because the room rate is based on an up to 4 people rate, 1-4 being the same rate and the individual tickets, including dinning, is per person.
I would be interested to hear what others have to say.

Anyway, I am sure you are going to have a magical time at WDW.

Welcome brighteyes:cool1: :cool1:

You would have to book a room for you and your son and your friend would have to book a room for her and her daughter unless you all share one room.

I would think mid June and late August will be equal in the heat department and it will be hot.

Wait a few more weeks because there is alot of talk that free dining will be offered for late Aug. which would save alot of cash.

I just came back from the CAA Disney specialist and we could, if we chose to, book together. Booking separate though is the way we are going to go its only about 700 more for the other room.

YEAH!!! The only thing is to decide when. Mid June or value season for August sometime Can anyone tell me if there is a big difference in crowds/heat between the two months?

Thanks

The reason you're getting the wrong mix of adults/kids response is because package prices are based on 2 adults in the room, so for the child to be priced as a child on a package there needs to be a 2nd adult in the room.

I have been during both months and would say August was slightly hotter but not by much. Crowds were lower during August than June....I have travelled alone with my ds (almost 11 now) for years and can tell you there is nothing to worry about.

Have a great time!

When I did the quote it was for 2 adults and 2 children, ages 8 and 11. I believe the problem was that for the room quote that was fine, but when I added the DDP, my son who is 11 is considered an adult.

As far as the question goes for could be book a package together in one room, the answer was yes we could which would have saved us about 700.00 but we chose to go separate rooms to have alone time with our children.

We are just having trouble deciding on which week in August, we are going for 10 days. I cant decide which days? How do you choose.

:confused3

Does it make a difference on which day of the week you arrive? OMG I have a headache but I am getting closer to deciding.

Thanks for all your responses. I love this board.:goodvibes

If you are flying i find that the airports are less crowded if you fly during the week, as compared tro the weekends.Enjoy.
