Hmmm...I know that many people have water and such delivered to their resorts, but what if I wanted to make my own "gift basket" instead of buying one through Disney? Would they put it in our room or just have us pick it up at the front desk?

Anyone have any personal experiences with sending down "surprises"? :wizard:

We are planning on doing exactly that. With the new rules, several of the basket makers can no longer include food and snacks in their baskets. Since I want food included, it turned out way cheaper to make my own and ship them down. Now, we are staying concierge, and I was assured that my baskets would be delivered during check-in. However, if you are not concierge, I would guess that just like a basket being delivered after you check-in, you will have to pick it up later. I don't believe they will put it in your room. Have an awesome stay!

The new "no food" rule is not cool :( I was planning on putting food in ours, too. And now I think I will just make one at home to send.

OP, I think that you will need to pick it up at the front desk unless you are concierge as the previous poster stated.

What is the "no food" rule? Can I send food down in my package? I was planning on it...

I was hoping it would be in our room when we showed up, but at least sending it there ahead of time will be a surprise for my DH.

Home based gift basket companies can no longer have food or drinks (even prepackaged foods) in their gift baskets due to Florida state laws without a health department certificate. So they would need to pay for a store front, etc etc to do this.

Of course, you can still have things like pizza delivered...or from companies like the Disney Florist. And you can still send things to yourself at the resort from home.

sorry OP....hijacking here.....
Ok so how about this,
I was thinking of making my own basket since the main reason I wanted it was to have a on hand snack stash, but I want it to be set up in our room as a welcome surprise. Since we have a very early flight I don't see our room being ready, and then we will be off to Epcot and won't be back till night time. Do you think I could tell the CM at the front desk that this package should be sent up and set up in the room? Has anyone tried this?

1) Gift items (flowers, baskets, etc) are not put in rooms prior to check-in.
2) In some instances, they will do it for Club Floor rooms, but not always.
3) It can be delivered to your room after you have checked-in.
4) However, any alcohol must be received in-person by an adult.
5) If you ship a sealed box, you may have to come to the front desk.
6) Or call the front desk when you are in the room.
7) They need to make certain there is no alcohol, or they can face State charges.
8) Without viewing the contents, they can't tell.

NOTE: Some resorts will deliver a blind box without you being there, but it is getting fewer and fewer. It just isn't worth the risk and liability. Once you are in the room, the Front Desk or Bellman can hand-deliver it to you. The Front Desk has a "runner" that delivers flowers, baskets, balloons, etc during the day shift and afternoon shift. But, they can refuse to deliver a box, as they can be held PERSONALLY liable, as well as the resort, if a child has access to alcohol.

I am assuming the grocery places can still deliver food? For example netgrocer, etc?
