Pace University Shooting.

This is a very concerning story. I saw the video of the young man, handcuffed by the road, dying. He was not aided by authorities and his friends were not permitted to give first aid. The initial report seems to be that he was attempting run down officers following a disturbance. Eye witnesses contradicted that report however. They said that he was responding to an officer that told him to move his vehicle out of the fire lane, another officer said that the car needed to be stopped, jumped in front of the vehicle and shot.
Whether the shooting was appropriate or not, first aid should have been administered. Apparently Sen. Scott Brown is requesting an investigation into this matter. What do you think?

It is an alarming and tragic story. It seems like there was little communication and a lot of chaos. I don't understand why first aid was withheld. So very sad.

I would like to know the outcome of the investigation.

Dawn, thank you for posting this. This young man grew up two towns over so I have been reading the coverage and wondering where the outrage is. I am absolutely heartbroken for his family and friends. From what I understand, he was a designated driver parked in the fire lane waiting for his friends to come out and a fight broke out nearby. He was trying to move his car out of the fire lane so he wouldn't get in trouble and ended up getting shot. He was pulled from the car and handcuffed and when his friends tried to attend to him they were threatened with arrest. Yet, the police weren't helping him. I'll be curious to hear the outcome on this one. Such a sad, sad story.

Dawn, thank you for posting this. This young man grew up two towns over so I have been reading the coverage and wondering where the outrage is. I am absolutely heartbroken for his family and friends. From what I understand, he was a designated driver parked in the fire lane waiting for his friends to come out and a fight broke out nearby. He was trying to move his car out of the fire lane so he wouldn't get in trouble and ended up getting shot. He was pulled from the car and handcuffed and when his friends tried to attend to him they were threatened with arrest. Yet, the police weren't helping him. I'll be curious to hear the outcome on this one. Such a sad, sad story.

I haven't seen the video but it's cases like this that make me really thankful for that technology. I think in the past these things were covered up because what could you really do when it was a police officer's word against yours? There was an assumption that they could do no wrong.

The video I saw was by a witness who used their cell phone. If the cop felt he had to stop the car for whatever reason, why not shoot out the tires? He was unarmed, traveling at a slow rate of speed. Perhaps in the chaos after being told to move his car, he didn't hear an order to halt.

Such a sad story. I have a feeling that we have a case of police personnel that overreacted. They were put into a situation that they had never been in before...probably ill equipped to deal with it. They tapped on the window of the car, wanting the young man to get out, but the driver misunderstood and thought he was to move his car. So, he starts to drive away. Now..here is where it gets interesting...the police say he 'sped away' so they needed to stop him. Sped away??? Funny, that's not what others that were there said happened. This driver put the lives of police officers at risk by driving his car into them?? I doubt it...more like the officers overreacted and jumped at the car, right onto the hood and started shooting.
Not sure why they couldn't shoot out the tires either. Now, this family has lost a very promising son.

On the news the other night they interviewed a local college law enforcement professor who was a police officer for 25 years. Watching the video, he commented that the police officer in the video who aimed his gun at the crowd trying to help the young man shot appeared - at first look - to have acted inappropriately. The truth needs to come out. And I say this with no disrespect to police officers who put their lives on the line every day. It's important to know what really happened.

Whenever people globally support all police officers (or all teachers or all soldiers) no matter what, I always think that everyone in every profession follows the bell curve. A few are fantastic at their jobs, most are okay, and a few are horrible at their jobs. Criticizing one cop is not criticizing cops in general.

The boy was from my hometown and was on my son's football team. They just held a candlelight vigil for him a few nights ago. I've never met him personally, but by all accounts he was a well rounded kid, good student and not at all a troublemaker. Such a tragic story, and my heart goes out to his family and friends.

wow, I saw the news on this and they made it seem to be the exact opposite of what happened. That is so sad and senseless. The madness needs to stop

There are so many conflicting stories...it was just reported on the news that the victim's BAC was .13 so he was legally intoxicated. I really hope there is a thorough investigation and the truth comes out. The victim's father was interviewed, he was very eloquent and I am very sad for that family.

It's funny that all the eye witness accounts aren't matching up with the cops stories. A car pulling slowly away is a lot different then a car speeding away, accelerating and purposefully hitting a cop. Which is it?
