Paba free & zinc oxide free Sunscreen?

Anyone know of a sunscreen that doesn't have PABA or zinc oxide in it?

A friend has an allergy to the PABA and zinc oxide. So, she does the cover with clothes. Long sleeves, long pants, ick how annoying in the summer.

Anyone know what kind of sunscreen discovery cove uses?
I know its dolphin safe, but when I looked over at the discovery cove website, I didn't see anything about buying their sunscreen.
Anyone know whats in thier sunscreen?

I think most have zinc oixide in them.


Have you checked the Arbonne ones yet.

How about the continuous spray ones. I believe they may be zinc free they aren't a cream and I think thats what makes them "cream" or "lotion" not an expert though.

PABA is very allergic, but is she sure about the zinc oxide? That is so mild and used even in baby products (think desitin). The two do not go hand in hand....I think there is a company that sells expensive baby suntan lotion called MUSTELLA....I am pretty sure those are PABA free.

Neutrogena is PABA-free and I don't see zinc oxide on the list of active ingredients. Their sunscreens and sunblocks come in a variety of forms from stick to lotion to sprays.

Discovery Cove uses a special Panama Jack formula. It's also PABA-free but I'm not sure about the zinc oxide.

I'll second the neutrogena(My son has severe allergies to skin stuff) Another one for her to check out is Mustella. Those are the only 2 my son can use without a rash. Oh and on the Neutrogena for some reason the aerosol one - he is allergic to. (same ingredients I think but for some reason he can't use it) So I say stick with the pump spray or the straight lotion on the neutrogena.

I also have some severe sunblock allergies- can't wear anything with PABA, avobenzone or cinnamates. Which is pretty much everything commonly sold in the U.S.

I'd be surprised if the Zinc oxide was the culprit, that's one of the few ingredients that almost everyone can tolerate.

I would recommend one of two things- Vanicream, which is allergy safe for most people: http://www.psico.com/products/vani_sunscreen.cfm

Or protective clothing. I like SolarVeil and Coolibar stuff. If she's doing the dolphin swim, Coolibar sells longsleeved sunprotective long sleeved swim shirts and tights- think surfing gear.

Neutrogena isn't actually that allergy friendly- almost all their products contain fragrances. I'd also be wary of the spray formulas, the chemical propellant in the cans could probably trigger a reaction.

I just noticed your post and wanted to add another product (besides vanicream) that's more easy to find is Blue Lizard and it contains only "barrier" sunblocks (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.)Neutrogena - sensitive skin formula lotion is another product that contains no chemical sunscreen.

My daughter can't use anything that contains chemical sunscreens anywhere on her face or hands. So we've successfully used Vanicream, Blue Lizard and Neutrogena-sensitive skin formula. All need to be applied more liberally than chemical sunscreens and more frequently to prevent burning.

If Vanicream is good- see if you can get a doc to write an RX for it- some companies will cover a huge bottle of it for your rx copay if you require it for an allergy. (just to keep it budget related! LOL)
