P90X Workout

4 of my friends have done them and say they are the devil to do and soooo painful but the results are great! I am wowed at how great they look afterwards.

While it garnered impressive (temporary) results in the person I know who's done it, it seems a little to intense for the average person to maintain.

There is a system he brought out before P90x called Power 90. I own both and let me tell you, P90x is a killer! Power 90 should be the average persons first step then step up to the P90x system

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I'm going to look into that first.

My DH has done the entire dvd workout circuit 3 or 4 times. The first time he lost 40 pounds (also changed his eating drastically), but then injured his knee from the workout and ended up having to get knee surgery.

He gained most of the weight back before going at it again. I'd hear him during the videos grunting and yelling when he'd lift the weights. I thought to myself, "No way, no how am I getting near that program!" :lmao: Sometime during this run he injured his shoulder from the pull-ups and weight lifting. Had to go through months of physical therapy. He was in his late 40s and I just don't think his body could tolerate the strenuous workouts. Not to say that older people can't do it because they can. Maybe he didn't stretch enough or he just pushed himself beyond what he should have to cause those injuries.

There is another program called P90 geared towards women that is also intense, but not as bad as the P90X.

My husband and I did P90X last year, starting in January. We did the full 90 days, took a break, and then did a more modified work out after that. I still use the DVDs, although I am no longer working out 6 days a week.

The results? We both lost weight, and gained tone, as well as energy. As others have said, this is serious; you are really working hard. There's no gimmick or secret, just plain old fashioned exercising. If you follow the program, AND follow the diet, you'll get results.

That being said, as a 40+ woman, I found my muscles did not recover as fast as they used to. That's why I went to a 4-5 day program after the initial round. It's also not for someone who hasn't exercised in years; you'd probably want to start with something else and work up to this.

But I would recommend it -it's a good, fun workout program.

My Dh and I are doing it now. We are on Phase 2 right now. I had been working out daily, he had not been. The first day he almost vomited. I got hurt really bad during the first workout (NEVER use the bands in a door--I lost my vision in my right eye from this--the anchor flew out of the door and hit me in the eye).
Besides the cost of the videos, you will also need weights, a pull up bar or tree, yoga mat.

I have found certain workouts to be far more difficult than others. The plyo bites. The Yoga is tough, but fun. The Kenpo bit at first, but now I really like it. I still cannot do a pull out with out a chair. I am seeing more muscles in my arms. I have not lost any weight, in fact I have gained a few pounds--not real happy about that. You need to be very dedicated to this series and working out in general. You will be working out 1.25- 1.5 hours a day.

Good luck!!
