~70 days to go until our SE Asia trip.

There is not a lot of OYO time--which is fine. Looks like things will be packed with interesting activities.

Looking for information on others' activity during OYO time. Particularly interested in how anyone may have coordinated tailoring in Hoi Ann as several in our party are interested in this.

Thank you!

in Hoi An the guides can set you up an appt to get tailoring done. It's not something you need to set up ahead of time. They did the tailoring and then delivered it to our hotel. Many of us did it. I have to put my own opinion out there though that this isn't amazing tailoring or fabrics. I had some linen pants and a couple of button down shirts made. The quality was not great. Fit was fine, but the fabric quality was not what I was looking for. I would not get a man's suit made there. Women's clothes could be totally different though. There were a lot more options. if you have anything very unique or like a specific dress out of a magazine in mind, I'd probably email a tailor ahead of time.

Hope that doesn't come across too negative. Actually Hoi An was one of my favorite stops. (And I wasn't even giving it much consideration before the trip. Funny how that happens.) It's so beautiful - a cross between SE Asia and Hawaii. We went up one morning with one of the ABD guides to Marble Mountain. That was really cool. Then we spent a lot of time at the pool. Wonderful time there. There's more info in my trip report. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

The trip sounds great...we noticed only a few trip dates on the ABD site so we hope that isn't a sign of a trip not doing well. Guess we will know June 9!

Cousin Orville--

Your trip report was one of our inspirations! Appreciate the time that you put into it.

I've done minimal research on the tailors. With what my adult children are hoping to accomplish it seems that they will need at least one follow up fitting. Didn't know how this might be done with our OYO time.

While in Hoi An, we took a tour called "Fishermen & Palm Paradise" with Jack Tran's Eco-tours. They offer a number of different tours, but the tour we took was 4 hours long (lunch and hotel transfers included). It was a lot of fun and very informative.

Our guides recommended Yaly Couture, FWIW. We visited them in the afternoon after our cooking class I believe. You can check my report to confirm. They delivered the clothes late afternoon of the next day. You might email them to see what they suggest. I would guess they might do a second fitting in the morning and then deliver it in the afternoon if they really need the business. I want to say they brought some clothes to the hotel for some 2nd fittings for others now that I think of it.

My strong suggestions for Hoi An is enjoy a dinner out in the town on day 4 (guides can book something for you) and enjoy the pool for part of day 5. We went to marble mt as an optional activity with one of the guides on day 5 in the morning and it was really cool.

As far as tailors, an ex-pat (Neville Dean) who owns a food tasting walking tour company in Hoi An recommended a couple of tailors:

Van Cloth Shop (Ms. Van) at 113 Tran Phu Street
Trung Duc (Ms. Lee) at 37 Tran Hung Dao Street

We did not buy any tailored clothing, but several people in our group did and they seemed satisfied. I don't think they went to those two shops though.

If you're interested in Mr. Dean's recommendations for restaurants, just let me know.

Thank you all for the helpful information.

It seems there will be so much to do in such a short time!

Of course, if I don't get my visas shortly nobody will be going anywhere. :-)

So true... at least you only have to worry about getting the Vietnamese visa since AbD will arrange for the other visas to Laos and Cambodia during the trip.
