Owning a Disney Vacation Home

Yes, there are some that own homes but they can't really reply to the thread because it's against the DISboard rules.

I though they could - because he is asking.

they are not advertising - just answering a request?

maybe I don't understand something.

Just curious if anyone on here owns a Vacatin Home they rent out near Disneyworld?

The reason I am asking is because I am interested in owning a home and was looking to hear about pitfalls and such

I know this because I was cautioned once. From the Guidelines:

Guideline Reminder
Please make yourself aware of our guidelines regarding advertising:

ADVERTISING: The advertisers/sponsors who you see on the DIS are carefully chosen. While we welcome discussion of them as well as other businesses that you have information or questions about, if its determined that you are using the DIS to promote a commercial venture, you will lose your posting privileges. This includes choosing a username/signature that refers to your business. In addition, links to the company's website will be blocked. Also note that we do not want the boards to be used for solicitations or for requesting referrals.

If you have a rental property, there is to be nothing that leads to your website in your posts. When offering advice, please do not mention that you're a property owner as it may be interpreted as promoting your business on the site.

The other guideline reminder regards Personal Messages:

NO PERSONAL MESSAGES: The types of posts that we like to see on the DIS are those that everyone can participate in and benefit from.

You're welcome to use our Private Messaging system provided you do not also post "sent you a PM" on the board. It implies that it's something that cannot be posted on the DIS and is a way of skirting our rules.

Thanks for the advise.

I think my original post is legal regarding all this so I suspect it should stand.

Now wether somebody actually responds with information I need is another story.

:rolleyes1

This forum is not the place for a discussion on the ups and downs of owning a vacation rental home. There are boards where you can do just that. I will send you a link to one I would recommend.

Kay, I would appreciate any info you can provide on this subject as well. If you cant post it, can you send it via private message, thanks.

It seems that there are a couple of people thinking about owning a vacation home. Can I just give some things to think about if you are considering it.

1. Do your homework, thoroughly. There are lots of costs and work associated with running a vacation rental - much more than most people realize. You need: licenses, to pay taxes, to keep up to date on the industry, keep everything updated and in good repair.

2. Be aware that it takes a LOT of time and effort to do. It impacts your whole life. (Can't go camping without internet access or a back up plan)

Hope that helps those that might be thinking about vacation home ownership.

Thanks for the information on the rules as well I did not know that we weren't allowed to post about that.
