Pondering signing up for an owners locker. Thoughts? Worth it?

i would likely store toiletries, a fan (we all sleep with one), pool stuff, Ponchos, coffee And other nonperishables. Trying to decide if the cost is worth not having to worry about this stuff every trip.

There is discount for DVC members for the first year, I think 6 months free and then $6 a month for the next 6 months. This is basic membership which is one delivery per year,

If you want one of the other options, I was told they will give you a DVC deal as well. I think I am signing up in December as I will be going a lot now!

People seem to love them but I think it really depends on how you travel. If you drive down there's no reason to have one. Toiletries like shampoo etc are fine to store, but sunblock, aspirin, digestive aids and the like will expire. It may be cheaper to ship something to yourself rather than a monthly or monthly + delivery/pickup.

We love our lockers! We have two and have had them for 10 years. We fly to WDW and generally go once per year. We keep some toiletries, laundry detergent, dishwasher pods but most of it is “comfort” items - a throw blanket, pullovers for cooler weather, Keurig coffee makers plus pods, special coffee mugs +wine glasses, pool bag/hat, rum, vodka, gin, extra magic bands.

Pretty much the locker contents make our stay feel more like home and stuff we only use at WDW (ie the etched wine glasses).

I just signed up for one in October using the DVC discount. I wasn’t sure if it was worth it but thought I’d give it a try. I was surprised how fast it filled up. We usually go once a year in October but we are having a one off family reunion in December so I’ll have to pay an extra trip charge. Still better to do basic than unlimited for our travel needs. It’s so nice knowing I have some things (especially things easy to forget) already there. All our ears, park fans laundry soap, are already there plus extra things. It rained on my last day so didn’t leave the ponchos for risk of mildew.

Oh and I really liked how you can inventory what you have in the locker and add expiration dates when applicable. I have a terrible memory so it’s handy for me to know what I put in there. Funny When I signed up, Husband was really giving me a hard time about it, saying we didn’t need it... blah blah blah. He ended up LOVING it. Now I need to hold him back to one locker.

I’m trying to maximize my first years use of my points, so I think I might try it out for those first three trips and see. My plan is to go 2-3 times, then skip 18 months, but I think that might change LOL.

😂😂. This part made me laugh! A smart move though, drinks are expensive!

I was surprised at how fast it filled up too! It didn’t hold as much as I was expecting. But we like it.

My kids help by sitting on ours when it's time to close it. We keep ponchos, adults' pajamas, ears, misting fans, etc.

You can get a ton in if you use ziploc bags and layer everything. I have a lot of stuff in mine including a twin aerobed!

Is it one delivery per calendar year or one per membership year?

We have an OL and really love it. We have a ton of stuff in it: keurig, water filter, tea and coffee pods, ponchos, umbrellas, pjs, and other misc stuff. There is a YOUTUBE demo on how to stuff your OL, which helped convince me it was worth getting. Since we go multiple times per year we decided to pay extra for more than one delivery per year Category.

They are a convenience. I had one for a while when I flew down. It was worth it IMHO. Now that I drive more I don't need it. They do fill up fast. It would have to be a small fan to fit in there. If that's the big reason, I would just order a new fan every trip and pay the 6$ charge, it will be cheaper.

I think OL warehouse is probably a step away from being a liquor store :)

Last I checked they has 2 categories, once a year (then 25 per visit beyond that) or unlimited for more money. Break even there was like 3 visits.

We had one when we flew to WDW and went more than 2x per year. We've lived nearby since 2010 so ended the OL.

We just got one in October. We usually drive down (fly down about 1x a year) but I'm definitely looking forward to the convenience of not having to pack the basics every time. It will be nice to only have to pack our clothes and anything we want to bring in a cooler.

Is it one delivery per calendar year or one per membership year?

The membership year is from the day you originally get your locker. Example: you start your membership on 1/19/19, your use year runs 1/19/19 to 1/18/20, so it you start your trip for 2020 on 1/17/20 and your next trip will be 1/20/21 you will have to pay an additional fee even if that is the only trip you will be taking in 2020 when using the basic service. I found this out the hard way and I wasn't real happy about that. I thought it ran like the DVC use year, it does not. This is the only complaint I have with OL.

With all that being said we have had our owners locker for at least 10 years and it has been very helpful when we were flying down. I do believe on our next trip we will be ending our contract with OL because we now drive down.
