In another thread, John indicated a mobile app is in the works for Owner's Locker, and that thoughts on what we'd like to see in such an app would be welcome.

I'll bite... here's my wish list.

First, please don't leave us Droid users hanging! There are several DVC apps for iPhones, but nadda for the Droid.

Second, a scheduling tool to make appointments for locker delivery and pick-up. I personally think the functionality that's on the web page is perfect. Just put it as-is into a mobile format.

Third, I'd like to have my locker inventories in the app. Again, the online version is pretty close. My wish list would be to add (to both the app and online) a field to add a category to each item, the ability to sort the list, and a check-box field called "Need to replenish" that you can check when you've used something up and need to remember to buy it/pack it on your next trip.

Some nice-to-haves:

The ability to move an item from one locker to another.

If you really want to impress us, it'd be nice to have the phone's camera enabled as a barcode reader. Similiar to the apps you can use to scan a barcode in the store and find info on the product, it'd be really cool to scan the barcode on the bottle of sun screen and have "Coppertone SPF 30, 20 oz" appear in your inventory. :wizard:

Excellent ideas.

Love the "need to replenish" idea - we currently change the name of our items to start with "NEED" when we are at that point, but this idea is better.

AND LOVE LOVE LOVE the barcode scanner idea. May be out of bounds, but I love that.

This is what I was thinking, but not for the content inventory, rather to populate a "to buy" list. This would allow scanning the old product before tossing it as well as scanning new stuff while at home (months before the visit).

And to be even more impressive, do this:

1) find a partner store (hopefully one that will provide OL with a commission for the products). It doesn't have to be local, as Amazon, Target, Wal Mart, etc delivery would work fine, as would We Go, Publix, or others.

2) link the "to buy" list to that store's pricing to indicate the total cost for everything on the list.

3) have a "delivery date" box and a "buy listed items" button, which sends the order to the retailer, who will box up the items and ship them to OL on the specified date for delivery with the locker (or include a resort tree for the MCO area which allows delivery to that resort. Ex: WDW area, Sea World area, etc, then they choose the actual resort and this provides the address).

Notes: The above functionality would require the app user to preregister a credit card with the retailer, but that's fine as most online (and local delivery) need a card, anyway.

The app could then also be useful to non-locker owners, as it provides an automated shopping function for the Orlando area (of course non-locker owners would pay a small fee for delivery, if the items are shipped to OL's facility. Such a fee could be a benefit to entice new locker owners, and OL will have another delivery function).

Finally, if this functionality is included, definitely charge a fee for the app ($1.99 or whatever). As another enticement, the fee could be tiered in favor of owners (ex: locker owners are charged $0.99 or nothing, where non-owners are charged $2.99).

This should be possible, as apps currently have parts of this separately (barcode scanners, mobile transactions through app stores, tracking & scheduling functionality).

Thanks for listening.

I would be happy with a simple "when you go home, don't forget that you wanted to bring this next time" space in which to list items. The barcode thing wouldn't help me much. I'm usually either thinking of things that aren't in my locker yet (and thus I wouldn't have on hand to scan), or items that I might have on hand but aren't scannable because they aren't in the original packaging (bring more hair clips, pens, rubber bands).

Please make a windows app version as well. There are so many cool apps I can't have because my new phone is a windows based one. I really don't want the OL one to be the same.

Thanks.

Hate to see them spend money making a app. The notes function on my phone works fine.

I hear ya Bill, but apps are the future. There might be some conveniences for current customers, but the draw for John & co. would be future biz.

I'm not an app expert, but if I could do drop-off/pickup and inventory on my phone that'd be great.:earsboy:

It's not like you need the app every week, maybe twice per year if you need your locker that often so waiting to access their website until get home isn't a issue for me.

Having a app isn't going to make or break me doing business with them, I don't know of anyone else providing purple boxes and they do a excellent job at a fair price.
