If you own at BVC and purchase an small (50 point) add-on at SSR then how is this handled when making reservations etc.
You can do this, right?
Do they have the same contract number as BCV ?
How about Member Number, not another number for the 50 SSR points I hope?
I am not clear how you would handle this.

A Family member asked if this could be done, purchasing a small number of points and adding them under my name since they did not want to purchase the 150 minimum for a new contract. I had never thought about this situation and could use some guidance.
Please advise.

I can't answer the first half of your question. However, one consideration might be to first purchase the points yourself and then resell them to your family member independently. You'll have to pay closing costs and perhaps some other fees twice. And you'll also lose the ability to finance through DVC. But as long as the price is high enough--and I'm assuming it would be the same base price at which you purchase--ROFR shouldn't be an issue.

Common ownership of a contract could get really ugly in the event of death or divorce. If the contract were in your name, upon your death, the DVC contract could be considered part of your estate and your relative may have no legal recourse.

You also may have to deal with issues such as what would happen if your relative couldn't pay the maintenance fees timely.

IMO, you're better off not adding this element to your relationship. Help him find a 50-pt resale contract at one of the sold-out resorts, or facilitate your own resale. It will be worth any additional dollars you are forced to spend.

I agree with tjkraz.
This is a baaaad idea!
It may (or may not) be technically legal, but there are many unforeseen possibilities and complications. If this person is a relative and a friend, you probably want to keep it that way. Putting their contract in your name is a good way to put friendship at risk.

Yes you can do it (But should you?). There would be the same member number but a different contract. When you make the reservations, you would tell them which points you are using after giving your member number.

BTW: I agree with tjkraz and erikthewise on the other point.

You will have one member number and one contract number. Your add-on contract number will be suffixed with .001 .
In other words, your 150 point master contract would be XXXXXXX.000, and your add on would be XXXXXXX.001 .

As far as booking is concerned, you would have the 11 month window at BCV using 150 points, and the 11 month window at SSR using 50 points.
Of course, at the 7 month window they become interchangeable.

The interesting part is that you can bank and borrow each resort separately.
In other words, you can bank your 50 SSR points for use next year, and at the same time borrow from your next years BCV points for use this year.

Good luck...

Thank you all for your comments and advice.

I wasn't sure how this would be handled or if it could be done.
If I understand correctly it would have the same contract number as I now have but with a different clarifier .XXXXXX1 .
I would use the same Member Number when contacting Member Services and state which points I wanted to use at that time the BCV or the SSR.
I can bank or borrow the two resorts independently.

Also thanks for the other advice but I am not at all concerned. If something happened they would end up with half the points anyway. They just wanted to be able to schedule some time using their own points.

Thanks again and if you think of anything else please advise.
