Overweight at Disney

I didnt see anyone address the problem I had one of our trips. I had a terrible rash from riding KALI and then spending the day with my chubby wet thighs rubbing. OUCH!!!! I know that someone mentioned a product here on the boards that is made for athletes for chafing but I can't for the life of me remember the name. I think it looked like a deodorant stick but the name escapes me. I used Monostat soothing care chafing relief powder/gel and didnt have a problem last trip. I know for all of you who have never had this problem it sounds funny but wow it can really hurt. Sorry to bring up such a weird subject but I dont think I am the only one this has happened to. Have a great time at WDW it is the greatest place!

Body Glide
I got mine at Dicks Sporting Goods..

There's an actual product for this?!?! WOW! Who knew??

Back in the good old days when my thighs were small enough to rub together, I used to wear these weird things called "chafees" (I think) that were like a garter belt with fabric that protected your inner thighs. They used to ride up in my pantyhose and drive me crazy. What I would have given for some body glide!

Now, these thighs are big enough that they don't rub together. Heck, they don't even MOVE!! :lmao:

Hi there! I am Pooh-sized, and we were in WDW in September. To echo what everyone else here said, WDW is extremely friendly towards "fluffy" folks, and you should have no problems.
If you would like to check out my trip report below, at the end of each post, I write a bit on anything that might be important for pooh-sized people to know from that day's adventures.
I found my biggest problem, by and large, to be the darn turnstiles. I sure wish they would do away with those things!! Talk about a recipe for embarassment. :scared: I didn't have a problem getting into or fitting into any of the rides, just a bit of an issue getting OUT sometimes, especially on Space Mountain! Seats in some of the theaters can be a bit tight, you have to wodge yourself carefully into them, and if you sit down too quickly you can end up with nasty bruises on your hips from smashing them into the armrests. Interestingly enough I had the same problem with the desk chair provided in our room at Port Orleans!
Other then that, no issues. I bought Crocs about 3 months before our trip and lived in them all summer long... my feet were very used to them and they were VERY comfy. I used to suffer with a lot of foot pain in the mornings and after walking a lot (plantar fascitis) but since I started wearing Crocs all the time i have NO problems with that at all. If you are new to Crocs, I would suggest getting them well in advance of your trip and getting used to them BEFORE you do all that walking. My DH decided to buy a pair of the POTC Crocs IN WDW and tried to wear them for 14 hours the next day and they gave him blisters. DUUUHH!!! :sad2: Now that his feet are used to them he wears them all the time and loves them.
I did have issues with the seatbelts on the airplanes, but I asked a flight attendant for an extender, and, she was very kind and prompt in getting me one. NO WAY would i have been able to get that puppy latched otherwise. That was on Delta, FWIW.
Enjoy your trip, and don't worry! I stopped being self-concious about myself at all after seeing a VERY AMPLE young lady at Typhoon Lagoon who removed her cover-up and was wearing a teeny little string bikini with a THONG behind. YIKES!! :scared1: She needed to have gotten a second opinion on her bathing suit choice...

OMG the visual on that is toooooo funny! When we were in Turkey the first time, there were some very interesting bathing suit choices. The one that really struck me (enough that I took a picture of it!) was a very large woman in a bikini. That photo is in my scrapbook with the caption "why some people should NEVER wear a bikini!". But a thong? Oh MY!!!:scared1:

I totally second your opinion on Crocs. I told myself I would NEVER wear them--they are ugly, etc. But SO many people on the DIS raved about them, so I got a pair for myself, and one for each of the kids. After living in them for the spring and most of June, I got myself 3 more colors! I wore nothing else most of the summer. They were a godsend in Turkey with all the walking we did, and I can't imagine wearing anything else in Disney. Now that it's winter, I have the Crocs Mamoth, which have a sheepskin lining. They are toasty warm and SO comfy! My DD has about 4 pair, including Disney, NY Yankees, and Green Bay Packers! I think DS still only has 2 pair, but he lives in them.

I also totally second your opinion on the turnstiles. It's true that they cause most of the "squeeze" issues at Disney. I always have to go through sideways. But if you know you can't squeeze through, you can always go through the handicap gate. I know I've had a CM direct me that way when I was heavier and needed it.

So hey, slip on your thong bikini and squeeze through the turnstile and don't worry about "living large" at Disney!! :rotfl:

Some overweight gals (myself included) have experienced a weird bumpy rash on our ankle area. I got it last year - and wore pants the rest of the week.

It's not uncomfortable or itchy - just weird looking.

Found out it's broken capillaries from 'pounding the pavement' when my legs weren't used to it.

I've been doing extra excersizes this year - but if I get it again I'm gonna wear capris if it's warm enough.

No one really cares what I look like anyway (except my own hyper-critical brain). Sure, maybe someone will get a wide-angle shot of my big rear as I bend over to look at a flower, but so what - we're all there enjoying our own vacations too much to really care what other people look like anyway!

The folks I feel sorry for are the ones whos personality doesn't let them have a good time. You know, arguing sniping families, complaining Dads, rude Moms. These ugly-inside folks are the ones I stare at and feel bad for.

I got that rash to, I didn't know that's what it was called. I called it the Disney Bug the whole time we were there.

but my super skinny 15 year old did?? Weird huh. I thought it was a reaction to the sunscreen of maybe a sunburn from the sun radiating off the black pavement???

"I know that someone mentioned a product here on the boards that is made for athletes for chafing but I can't for the life of me remember the name. I think it looked like a deodorant stick but the name escapes me. "

Body Glide is the product, but I have also read on other boards, that regular deoderant has the same effect as Body Glide. So, why spend the money on Body Glide, when we all are wearing deoderant anyway?

Just be sure to bring it into the parks with you.

It probably is from the sun off the pavement, someone will post again the thread or link about it. The abbreviation is something like PMLE..

Here ya go..

I agree with most of the posts here. I just got back from a short Christmas trip and found that the turnstiles were tougher than the rides. I only had one issue trying to remove myself from Space Mountain. No problem getting in but getting out was a little harder.

However, I have always had an issue with my feet. No matter what I wear, my feet are killing me by the end of the first day. They're okay early the next morning but after about an hour, they're killing me again (even more so when I just stand). I've tried crocs and still have an issue. I even had this same problem when I was lighter so it's not all weight related. Most be bad feet!!!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

This thread ROCKS!! Being an plus size gal myself I have been WORRIED about fitting on rides.. I just knew I would be the one that everyone stares at when I have to get back out of the ride because the bar/belt wouldn't fit!!!!!

It's SO embarrassing. I remember going to Six Flags in High School (I was like size 20-22 then) and having to do that with one of their coasters!! Size 20 isn't even that big!!!!! :scared1:

I'm 44 years old and I've always had problems with my feet too. I have very flat feet and as the years have gone on they've affected my ankles, knees and hips. Eight years ago when we went to WDW I could barely keep up and my feet hurt constantly. I would have dreaded this trip too (we just got back a couple weeks ago) but I wear MBTs all the time now and they've made a huge difference. I was seriously able to walk everyone else into the ground and my feet didn't hurt at the end of the day.

These shoes cost about $240 a pair. I never would have gotten them for myself but my Mom started wearing them a few years ago and loved them. She bought me a pair of white sports (they have the best support) for my birthday and I fell in love with them too.

I've worked hard at loosing weight the past two years and I'm down 70 pounds. These shoes played a big part in what I am capable of doing. Working out and especially walking was really hard before. My previous 'go to" shoes were new balance and I've never used them again since I got my MBTs. I have MBT white sports and a pair of their sandals. For WDW I stuck mostly with the white sports since they have such excellent support. I have a shoe fund I put money into every month so when these wear out I can replace them.

Once upon a time I would have thought it was sinful to spend so much on shoes. Until I realized having these shoes gave me back a large portion of my life.

I have been on a shoe search of months. I am looking at the MBT's now.

I know I will take my Birks, my Crocs, and my Z-Coils but I wanted a "normal" shoe. Well a couple of shoes later and blisters and rubbing sores to boot I thought I had no other options... but now I might have found one. Thanks!

BTW... This is my FAV. Thread.

The only trip report I have ever read on the Dis was the Pooh size report...Thanks!

Just a little heads up for my fellow Pooh sized Disers. When I was at MGM we went to Sounds Dangerous. I wasn't thinking and just went to sit down. :headache: I am a size 24 and my outter thighs got some painful bruses from the arm rests I ran into as I came down into my seat.:guilty:

The only ride that I had any real problems with was the Tommorrowland speedway(?) I had a bit of a hard time getting out of the car since it is so low to the ground. Other than that I had a lovely time. This year I hope to be at least 30 pounds lighter when we go.

I just re-read this thread- so much great and supportive info here-you guys are the best

Just wondering if anyone has had success or lack of success sitting in the cars at Sci Fi? Or any other restaurant obstacles? Thanks, Jen
