Recently purchased silver jewelry from Overstock.com. One item was less than what I was expecting, so I went to return it. It took two tries, but it worked.

I received a return ticket from Overstock.com. They charge a 30% restocking fee and an added $3.25 for shipping. OUCH!!!!

The item would cost me $.37 to mail it myself. :confused3

I wrote to Overstock and although pleasant they say this is policy and they did not care. :cold:

Wow, easy to buy from, but don't return anything 'cause it will cost you.
::yes::

No, I think I'm going to sell it on eBay to get my money back.

I'm not too happy with them now, either. I have been waiting since 7/28 for a credit. :rolleyes1 Won't buy from them again, that's for sure.

It is a website that sells odd lots of merchandise at very substantial discount, so such policies are to be expected. They are also very up-front and honest about the return policy.

"Keeping costs low and passing the savings to our members is one of the ways we achieve the Special & Exclusive Prices we offer you. Hence, we do not accept Buyer's remorse returns."

Incidently, their policy is, when the do accept returns, to charge a 15% restocking fee. You should check into that with them, since there is nothing about a 30% restocking fee (though, their reply may be that their policy is that don't accept returns, so perhaps 30% is better than nothing, for some people).

Just wanted to mention they will waive the restock fee if the item is defective. I ordered a watch from them that didn't work and I got a full 100% credit when I returned it, very quickly I might add. I actually thought their return policy and cust. service was great! I will remember not to return anything that is not defective, though.

I would expect at least this. (Honestly, they should not sell anything defective, but companies get out of this quite easily - it is against the law to sell something you know is defective - companies just say they didn't know).

I would much rather spend a few bucks more to know that an item can be returned if I do not want it. 30% is a very high return fee - they are trying to make you not return the item, which is bad business.

I can buy from so many other retailers, so missing this on-line store, is no big deal to me. ;)

I agree... it is simply not worth buying something so heavily-discounted. There is more to what you're buying than a price.

Yay!

I sold the merchandise that was so highly penalized by Overstock on eBay.

I learned my lesson with cheap retailers.

I still love TJ Maxx, Marshall's and other places, but there you can try on, touch and feel the merchandise. They also do not have a restocking charge like Overstock.

A lesson learned.
