Overseas calling plans

Hello everyone,

I have been cheerleading the concept of getting a discount calling plan before making calls to DLP from the US, so I thought it might be a good thread to start.

I use PennyTalk, which costs 49 cents to connect and then 2 cents/minute for calls to the UK and France (among many other places).

Another poster said they had Vonage service.

Might be nice if other folks chimed in with their experiences on calling from the US or the UK or wherever...and how to do it cheaply.

And, on the other hand, are there any suggestions for those of us traveling overseas to be able to call home cheaply too?

thanks!

We actually have several different phone plans right now (we are waiting to get our Vonage number hopefully transferred to another internet-based service which we also have). Vonange (the unlimited plan) is free to a number of European countries. But if you are calling some numbers in the UK (like cell phones), it does cost. http://www.vonage.com/intrates.php

My calling card costs a different amount of minutes per country, I am not sure what it is now since I've not used it for overseas dialing in a long time. But it was reasonable enough.

I'm not sure what our other internet service costs for overseas, but I think it's cheap.

I would go with Skype. Cost is very low and they had a special $14.95 for a full year of calling within North America. I use Skype whenever I am travelling for work and the call quality is better than other VOIP services I tried. Plus the IM feature is great.

Skype is very popular in Europe. I highly recommend it.

Personally, if I didn't have any services which offered free calls - and all I was planning to do was make one or two calls over, I'd just use a calling card. I have heard great things about Skype. So if you are planning to call a lot more often, that might be a great option. I'd not sign up just for Vonage to call Disneyland Paris once or twice! (I like the service, and I get unlimited calls around the US - the free International calling I can do occasionally is just icing on the cake). And it's only a handful of countries that are free.

I am talking my cingular GSMA cell phone with there international call rates!

It is no the cheapest but anyone who needs me from the states can call me!

I can use it at DLP & on the Magic for the MED cruise!:cool1:
