I am trying to pay my trip in full before we get there.
Our trip is planned for December.
If I should overpay my balance, can I use that money toward dining or shopping in the resort?
Can I use it for shopping/dining in the parks?
Thanks !!

if you've got an overpayment upon check-in, they'll either suggest crediting your CC or leaving it on account (on your room card) - that way you can use it while in WDW for food, souvenirs, whatever

i've done this for past several years - paid the trip in full, THEN a code/discount comes out, i'll apply it and the balance is there waiting for me when i arrive (if i want it to be - once they just sent me a check for the difference, another time they asked what i wanted to do)

Why would you pay them in advance, when you could put that money in a savings account and earn interest on it until your trip? Why let Disney make money on your money before they are entitled to?

I pay as I have it so I don't spend the money. I can't trust myself.

You can pay for your room with Disney Gift cards. Buy them as you get the money or open a cashable investment account and deposit the money until you go on vaction.

I've read several threads that discuse people wanting to pre-pay a room-only reservation and either not being allowed to do it or having problems after they arrived at the resort. The problems being... told that they had not paid anything other than the one night deposit.

I've never heard of anyone having problems prepaying their room only reservation.

Yes, you can continue to pay on your room with as much as you can in whatever increments that you can. It is a good way to get things taken care of before you get there. If you overpay, there will be a credit balance on your room and you can use that to charge within the parks and your resort (actually pretty much all over Disney World).

For your records, each time you do pay something on your room, call and ask for a written confirmation. That will show how much is still due upon check in. Or you can just verify that with the Cast Member on the phone. Of course, always keep some sort of documentation of when and how you sent in your payments. If you send in a check, you can easily look online to see if the check has cleared. If it's not applied to your balance, have the check canceled.

We're going down in a couple of weeks. I have a package, so that is all paid for. I have a room only for my parents. I put the deposit on their room when I made their reservation. I called back to make some requests and tried to pay off my parent's room only reservation and was told that I could not do that.

That was my recent experience with a room only reservation. Disney didn't want the money in advance. (I normally wouldn't want to pay a room only in advance, but I wanted it taken care of before my parents check in.)

You have more than enough time before you go to put your $$ in a safe, but unacessible place...like a 6month CD. NEVER pay before you have to....its way to hard to get it back if you have to cancel, and you lose control over your own money. Life is uncertain, you never know what *may* happen.

I also tried to pay the reservation off in advance since Discover card was offering 5% cash back on up to $800 in hotel charges made by 3/31. I called and was told I had to pay the balance on check in and only the one nights deposit could be paid up front. :confused3

I always pay off my room only ressie in time to have the reward points on my Disney Visa to use while I am there. I have never had a problem. Ah--the mysteries of CRO!!!

If you booked online you cannot pay in full in advance. If you book by phone you can pay in full in advance.
