Comfort is key when walking around in the Florida heat so except for maybe one "new" outfit or costume I'd stick with clothing that you or your family has worn and is comfortable with (fits right, doesn't ride up or chafe, irritating tags cut off, length is right, etc.) Plus, you're not at home so it's perfectly acceptable to wear the same sweater or shorts more than one day if they are still clean. Remember, the CMs and characters are on stage, not you!
The main things you will want are lots of clean, comfy socks and underwear (OMG I'm my mom!
) with no irritating seams or things that ride up or sag down, 'cause no matter how nice the outer clothes are, it really sucks to have to fidget with socks and undies.
For the people who are packing multiple outfits for one day, since you have a large clothing collection it's quite likely that you'll be purchasing a lot of Disney clothing while there, so you can reduce the packing to one outfit or less a day (at least for tops).
Two or three pairs of comfortable footwear (sneakers and/or sandals) and unless you're going out to dinner where you'll be wearing a skirt and only walking to and from the bus or car, forget the high heels! I realize some women claim to "live" in them, but Disney and the "high maintenance look" just don't go together very well. The intended fashion effect is short-lived - the annoyed, tired and "why did I/she wear this" effect unfortunately is not.
I usually plan mix and match outfits before going based on what I'll be doing and use up all the clothes I pack, but I'm going to WDW in December so will have to pack a lot more than spring/summer/fall folks since I'll have to cover a range of possible temperatures (gloves, hat and big sweater for evening in case of a cold snap, shorts and tanks for midday, t-shirts and capris for in-between, and a bathing suit
). Even so, the clothing for myself and DS8, plus makeup/grooming basics for 10 days, will have to fit in one suitcase and a backpack. We'll wear the bulkiest clothing and sneakers on the plane. The 3 adults I'm travelling with will have one suitcase each as well, so between the 5 of us and our stuff we'll pack the van. If need be, the laundromat's right by the pool so will likely get used.
It's great to be prepared for anything and to plan an outfit for each day, but a little self-discipline and planning can save you a lot of wasted packing and griping from hubby - I suspect there's a lot of duplication and excessive accessorizing going on. Remember, Angelina Joli can wear dirty, rumpled jungle clothes for days in a movie and still manage to look good with some eyeliner, mascara, lipgloss and a smile (well, predatorial pout in her case
)
Relax, be comfortable and dress for adventure!
