OK, so DS is 12, and will be attending his 1st overnight soccer camp with his team in a couple of weeks. I have the 'packing list' from the club, with all the obvious items (practice kits, socks, 2 pr of cleats, 1 pr indoor flats, etc) but was wondering if there were any 'must have' items that I might not be thinking of.

They'll be sleeping in dorm rooms at a local college, and he'll literally be 15 minutes away, so we can drop stuff off that he might need.

So to all of you experienced soccer camp parents, what do we send?

Extra socks for wet practices and some newspaper to shove in his cleats to dry them overnight.

Will the college provide linens?

Have any of the kids gone before? Their parents are probably good resources for what other items the kids will need.

Suncreen, quarters, protein bars, Gatorade (bottle or powder), playing cards, alarm clock. Are the dorms air conditioned? If not, send a fan.

Definitely, on the packing list, they want them to bring 10 prs of socks, and DS actually has 2 prs of cleats that fit him right now, that are well broken in, so he thinks he'll bring both. I hadn't thought of the newspaper, I do that at home all the time.

We have to provide linens, so those are on my list as well. As far as I know, none of the kids have been before. They are a 1st year U13 team, and this camp is also being used as a 'team building' week as well.

Extra shin guards too.

Bandaids and Advil.

GOOD stuff here too. I'll have to find out about the dorms, but a fan is a great idea.

Thanks everyone, this is all great info to have. I'm a tad nervous about him going, as the only time he's been away to camp was Nature's Classroom, and was totally supervised by teachers and parents. What's keeping me from totally freaking out, is he is at a college that is literally 15 minutes away from our house. I'm trying desperately not to be a smother mother. ;)

I just thought of something else...send a laundry bag and explain that dirty stuff goes in the bag, not back with the clean stuff.

It will be a great experience; both DD and DS have gone and loved it!

I always send along some Gatorade and snacks. Spending money; all the camps we've done have let them order pizza in the evening and they're all starving after playing soccer all day!

If he's taking a cell phone, a ziploc sandwich bag to keep it in inside his soccer bag. If it rains, it won't get ruined.

Two towels; mine have showered twice a day and it's kind of gross to use a wet towel.

I send along the huge ziploc bags for dirty clothes.

Hope he has fun!

My daughter went to ice hockey camp for three years in a row at Providence College. We sent along a dorm sized fridge with baggies full of cut up fruits, veggies and cheese. Also sent along a case of water bottles and sports drinks.

Now, you want to talk about stinky equipment????? just gross!
