Has anybody tried Overnight Oats?

Apparently Quaker sells pre-filled cups, or you can make your own. I'm wondering about the taste and texture.

From the Quaker Oats website:

Overnight oats are a no-cook method of making oatmeal. Instead of cooking your oats with liquid on the stove or in the microwave, oats are mixed with milk or milk and yogurt, topped with your favorite ingredients (like fruits, nuts, seeds and sweeteners like honey or brown sugar) and cold-steeped overnight in the fridge (45 degrees or colder). You can make overnight oats yourself at home using our Old Fashioned Quaker Oats, or you can try a more convenient option with our new Quaker Overnight Oat cups. Quaker Overnight Oats cups are a convenient blend of hearty oats, fruits, nuts, flaxseed and quinoa. Simply add milk or milk alternative, chill overnight and enjoy cold in the morning for a hassle-free morning.

  • Overnight Oats are great with all kinds of milk, dairy (pasteurized), or non-dairy. Feel free to use your favorite!
  • We do not recommend making Overnight Oats with water because it will result in an overly liquid texture.

We recommend refrigerating it for at least 6 hours but not longer than 24 hours. Only remove from fridge when you’re ready to eat it.

The oats need to cold-steep overnight to reach the optimal texture. We recommend cold-steeping in the fridge (45 degrees or colder) for a minimum of 6 hours but not longer than 24 hours. Remove from fridge when you’re ready to eat it.

For a creamier experience, add 2-3 tablespoons of plain yogurt after adding milk at night or in the morning before eating.

I tried a couple of the flavors, I liked the blueberry one, didn't like the other but I can't remember what is was. Just used milk with it and ate it cold. I liked it, didn't love it but I thought it would be handy for a quick breakfast when at Disney.

That's what I was thinking - if you have a fridge in hotel room you could do this (without microwave or heating water in coffeemaker and worrying about taste).

I thought about trying them, but decided I just couldn't get past the fact that my mind expects oatmeal to be warm. My stomach churned thinking about eating it cold for some reason - it just wasn't willing to accept the thought of cold oatmeal I guess!

Maybe it's because I eat it just about every morning (with milk), but made in the microwave.

I had the same fear but it really wasn't bad.

It's what I bring into work most mornings for breakfast. I make my own with oats, milk, yogurt, chia seed, and frozen fruit (mango is my favorite!) I put it in a container the night before and then grab it on my way out the door.

I've done them - not the premade kind - its easy enough to throw rolled oats, yogurt, milk and fruit or jam in a jar overnight. I like them, but it does have an unusual texture if you are texture sensitive.

(What I don't like is crockpot overnight oats - too mushy. We do steelcut oats and they should have texture).

I love my overnight oats but did not not the first few recipes I tried, did not like them cold either.

Then I tried this recipe and for some reason it's ok cold to me. I put a little bit of milk on the oats in the bowl when I eat them. really like the texture of the crushed pineapple and coconut with the oats.

Yep I make my own with fresh fruit. In the summer they are yummy. Now that it's getting a little colder I want something warm in the morning. This is the recipe I follow https://www.theyummylife.com/Refrigerator_Oatmeal

except I'll do greek vanilla yogurt and then I don't add honey or any sugar. With fresh strawberries or blueberries they are so good. I put mine in the mason jars too and make a couple at a time so I can have 2 days worth. They're great to grab and go.

I have done them in mason jars. I like hot oatmeal so it wasn’t really for me.
Dcl has a variety of overnight oats flavors in cabanas too!

I tried the Quaker coconut and almond one, and didn't care for it. It was to sweet.

I tried one, and found it too sweet as well. I think it was also the coconut and almond flavor.

But... the biggest problem I had was that the container leaked when I took it to work from home, and it was a sticky mess!

I make these often and really enjoy it. I tried the recipes on the oatmeal container 2 weeks ago and didn’t really like them at all though. I normally use almond milk, yogurt, and then any fruit of choice, and sometimes sprinkle some cinnamon. I also will make 3-4 days at a time and have had no issues with it.

I love taking the oats and eating them with just cold milk, and not even soak them over night. I love the texture.
