Overly complicated question for tween user of G+ and MB+

Hi everyone, headed to wdw in Nov with DH and my 13 year old DD. I recently learned that although she has her own MDE account, she can’t help with G+ selections since she is a minor- I think she will enjoy this (and be quite good at it lol) so was planning to have her logged into either my mde acct or DH’s on her iphone while we are there. She will be our G+ master 😂

Here’s the question: we also just got her a magic band plus, but I just heard she needs to be linked via Bluetooth to her phone for it to work. Aside from the regular magic band 2.0 stuff, she is excited to interact with the statues and feel the haptics etc.

DH is old school and will be using a magic band 2.0.

DD’s ticket etc is managed on DH’s MDE.

Soooo- how can all of this work? If she is logged into DHs MDE on her iPhone to make G+ selections for us, can her new MB+ link to her name in my husband’s account on her phone? So that the MB+ can activate near statues when DD is near?

I may be waaaay overthinking this, but just hoping she can use her phone for G+ and also be able to experience whatever is available for her magic band + too.

Thanks!!!

I'm confused, if she has her own MDE why is she also managed on your husband's profile. More importantly, which profile is her MB+ linked to. At some point you'll want to merge those 2 profiles.

I have both my MB+ and my Mom's MB+ linked to my account. If my mother even has a MDE account (kind of doubtful though), she would not know where to go to login or what to do. I do all the planning and she comes along for the ride. If for some reason, we need to use her phone, MDE is usually logged into my account anyway. I manage both our plans.

This is an interesting topic to me because my wife and I manage the tickets for both of our kids through our individual MDE accounts. Neither of our kids has a MDE account but we'd eventually like to create one for them. I haven't done so yet because I'm not sure how to merge the tickets currently assigned to them under our MDE accounts (park tickets, MNSSHP event tickets) with a newly created MD account that is unique to each one of them.

She was always under DH for ticket assignment. We just made her her own account (recently got her own phone) so she could choose her own avatar, check wait times etc. I thought she’d be able to book G+ selections from there but you need to be older (I forget- 16 maybe?). I wonder if she can add her own ticket to her own profile 🤔. We don’t have the tix yet so I guess we will see.

MB + still in the box, will link to her account. You raise a good point because we will obviously need to link it to the one with the active ticket attached. You’re right we will need to merge them at some point.

Disappointed that she can’t do the G+ selections, otherwise this should be pretty easy.

Guess we will see! :)

lol I love that, same here. Do you know if your mom’s MB+ interacts with the statues?

I know they can't buy G+ unless they're over 18 but I'm pretty sure as long as an adult buys it, they can make the selections for themselves and anyone they're linked to.

I would assume so but if we are going to do something like that, I would probably be waving my arms around. I do know it goes off on rides (lights up and vibrates) and it picks up pictures from rides too.

There are likely multiple ways to accomplish the same thing, but what we always do is have everyone staying in the same room on a single MDE account. Makes things MUCH simpler to manage. When we traveled with some other families who each had their own room, they also did the same thing. We added everyone we were traveling with as a 'friend' or whatever Disney calls that. This way the others who were traveling with us could view the plans that had been made. ONE person arranged for all of the ADR's for multiple families to simplify how things worked.

Some of the tasks on MDE are not obvious and someone who hasn't used it a lot can mistakenly cancel ADR's (or mess up other things) if they happen to push the wrong buttons. We never found any advantage for every person to have their own MDE account.

The bluetooth linking is just for the special effects and special things like the bounty hunter game - it doesn't have anything to do with linking to a ticket. I often don't link / relink my MB+ with my phone because I forget!

Ooooh good point. Will need to investigate further! That would certainly simplify things!

Cool…. Maybe it’s related to geo-location- so maybe it won’t matter at all which mde she is logged into on her phone.

Thanks for your help everyone!

I could be remembering incorrectly, but I'm almost positive that my DD (who has her own account that she manages due to going to WDW on a school trip a few years ago) could not buy Genie + but could book the time slots for our family.

That would be perfect. Hope that works!

If I recall correctly, under 18s can't do anything in the app that would require a payment method stored. So they can't purchase G+, ILLs or book ADRs. I don't think they can mobile order either.

Just as a heads up, we were recently at WDW. Unless I was doing something wrong, I think many of the statues are no longer interactive?

aw man that would be a bummer! They didn’t work great when we were there in 2021 but it was cute and DD wanted to give it a try this time…

Yup. I remember that too. I feel like I learned somewhere another cut off age (maybe 14 or 15?) to be able to book G+ selections (even if already purchased)…. @scrappinginontario I think you enlightened me on this- do you recall the lower age limit for a user to be able to book G+ selections? I tried to find that conversation but couldn’t…

Thanks!!

The only thing I can think of would be that you can't enter the park alone until you're 14 (?) and that someone made a coding oopsie.

We got them all to work in March, but some of them took a little more effort than others.
