Overheard a Renter...

I think a couple of fast passes should be the starting amount. But hey, I also wouldn’t make a formal complaint about much. My brother worked at hotel for a few years and he bacsically hates people now. Hahaha
Would be interesting to know formally who pays for the comps though.

It is just disheartening that there are people out there that think when things are not perfect that maybe if they complain, they will get something. Granted, the OP said the person said if they didn't get anything they would have been fine, but if sounds like they complained with the hope that they would be compensated with something...

For a given situation we weren't there so it's hard to formulate a reasonable opinion in a given situation. I try to formulate opinions based on principles and if a given situation falls into the parameters, most affected will know. There are professional complainers but Disney tends to be far too quick to throw money around when people say anything at all even if not necessary. My hope would be they are reasonable and consistent, two areas Disney has never excelled in.

I'm sorry, they called down to report an "inconvenience"?? What exactly is the inconvenience here? I must be old fashioned or something. What happened to just being kind, telling bell services a wrong delivery came to our room and be on your way. Instead, they call and complain? You know, my son worked for Disney's Guest Comm. office for two years. They record each and every "complaint or issue" that comes their way. You do it two, three times? They KNOW you. And I'm talking it goes back years, even the littlest of things. Many, many letters go straight to the trash. The ones that are kind, and don't expect a thing, are the ones that are pixie dusted. You wouldn't believe the stories I heard. This situation? omg. It is trash worthy, just ridiculous. It is getting beyond ludicrous, and makes it very difficult for staff to surprise folks anymore, with really great stuff. $200.00 for what?? Dumbfounded here.

The first time we used our points at VGC when we checked in we were told that there was a drawer missing from the dresser as it was being repaired. We were only there for a couple nights and didn't intend to unpack and didn't really care. Our room wasn't ready yet so we went to the business centre to print our ticket vouchers (and tried to help another family struggling to print their own tickets!) and when we got back to the desk our room was ready but this time they immediately told us the drawer was missing, apologized, and offered us dinner at the buffet that night. I declined as we had plans that night and didn't really care about the drawer but he insisted and instead put a $100 credit on our room. For a drawer I didn't care about and declined compensation on. We were happy to spend it but laughed about it for our entire trip. You'll all be thrilled to know the drawer was back safe and sound the next afternoon and stayed empty for all of our 3 night stay. Thanks for the help affording the Dooney wallet Disney.

I think this is why Disney is doing this. I don't like to hear that many of these moves are potentially being taken out of our dues, but it makes sense for them to overcompensate people for issues that they may be having. It immediately flips a negative impression of Disney into an overly positive one, and suddenly a $100 or $200 credit turns into another $5000 vacation for a family of four. It certainly worked that way for me.
This past summer, my wife and I were still undecided about joining DVC. We had a breakfast buffet scheduled for 1900 Park Fare, and when we showed up at the Grand Floridian, we were told that there was a mechanical issue and that the breakfast was being moved to Citrico's location. No big deal to us at all. We still had a great breakfast and experience, but noticed that some of the options, such as the carving and omelette station were missing. We asked to speak to the manager to "complain" that we were being charged the full price for less than the full meal. I was very clear that I was happy with the service and thought that they did a great job with what they were working with, and was not even able to even ask for any sort of compensation for the missing food. As I was speaking about what was missing, the manager we were talking to immediately let us know how embarrassed he was and insisted that we have dinner at 1900 Park Fare on him. We told him repeatedly that we were not looking for this compensation, just for a bit off the bill for the missing items, but he insisted.
While the extra meal cost Disney about $100, it was the final nail in the coffin that led us to commit to Disney World for the next 43 years at least. My wife and I decided that if they take care of their customers the way that they took care of us, then they were the sort of company that we wanted to be associated with.

It is quite possible that there are people who have realized how to take advantage of their generosity, but I think it is a smart move on Disney's part. I love sharing the story of meal that they gave me, and that is free advertising in itself.

I do know that we had two problems on our last trip to Vero Beach -- one being just a total inconvenience and one that I absolutely define as a serious issue. We received $200 credit and also a call back with a free dinner at their Wind and Waves Grill for the serious issue. That was definitely deserved. Also had one issue at BWV where my "pool/garden" view was a tree encompassing and growing into the entire patio (yes we do use the patio). Was offered that $200 credit and I didn't take it. Rather I asked for points compensation. They were really reluctant about that and it took some effort to accomplish (which took well into the vacation and my return from vacation). So there is a case where the $200 was probably less money than the time and effort to get my points back. And please don't say the tree was garden view....although I had wonderful intimate morning conversations with all the tree critters.:-) Not sure if any of this comes out of our dues but it's worth a call to find out and I just might do that vs. speculate upon it.

I’m curious what happened at VB now :D

Also- I’d hope they would just refund the point difference between standard and garden view. That would be fair and I would hope it wouldn’t take much convincing.

I had a similar situation with a CRO room at the Poly. The third floor "Lake view" of the water was completely obscured by huge vegetation growing in front of, and onto, the balcony. We were there for a 10 day trip, and the resort was full, so we had to stay in it for a night until they could move us. The compensation was the night in the obscured room would be free. The morning we were moving out, I walked out onto the little balcony and found half a dozen birds staring at me from the railing, which was covered in bird droppings. Had we been stuck with this room, it would have had a very different view of Disney than I came home with.

I was unhappy with Boardwalk's housekeeping (pubic hair in the bathtub! Cumbs all over the floor) and they credited me $200. My friend's daughter fell on a coffee table and required 3 stitches, losing an entire afternoon (urgent care), and they gave us all 3 free fast passes. It just made the trip more pleasant. So we bought another 200 points-- this time at Bay Lake (2 years ago). They roped us in!!
