is there such a thing as over planning when it comes to Disney? My husband and I along with our 6 year old speical needs child is going to Disney this coming Thrusday. All i have heard about since the day after christmas is Disney, Disney, Disney. i have heard so much about disney that i am not even excited to go. I know that we are going at the worst time of year. And i know that the parks are going to be packed and planning is a good thing in that aspect but researching all the new additions to the park and even knowing all the new stuff they put on the castle before we even get there seems just a little bit over prepared. dosen't it take some of the fun and the excitment out of walking through those gates and seeing everything for the first time? how much fun could it be to see the castle for the first time and go oh yeah i knew that was there. It just seems to take all the fun out being there for the first time.I don't know maybe it is the dread of packing for 10 days talking.

We leave in 4 days and the kids have been having a countdown to Disney for about 70 days. Sometimes, it doesn't seem fun and exciting that we will be at Disney, but most days I'm still giddy with anticipation. Maybe it's just a passing feeling. I don't know for a fact but maybe when you get there you'll melt into 7 yr old wonder and amazement. I remember clapping my hands and bouncing like a little girl when I saw Wishes at the MK. I hope the same happens for you. Sprinkling some pixie dust your way..... :goodvibes

There is such a thing as overplanning-- however, there is such a thing as underplanning, too.

Don't worry, and relax. You've already done the hard part. All your planning will pay off once you get into the parks, have a plan, and know where to go.

I think all of us who have planned Disney trips get like this every once in a while. I'm sure you'll have a great time once you get there. And I have a feeling that once you see the castle in person for the first time, your worries about not being excited will disappear pretty quickly!

Sending :goodvibes your way for a GREAT trip!

It's okay! Even very experienced WDW folks get these feelings sometimes. Don't worry.......just pack and go. I am positive that once you arrive you'll be glad for all the prep work that you've done and you will be so happy to be there. You KNOW it'll be crowded. Think of all the people who go there who have NOT done any research............you have a tremendous advantage.

DD16 and I ARE vets! We arrive on Friday. Our first time during spring break/Easter. We'll do what we can do, and not sweat the rest.........it's all good cause we're on VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jumping1:

We are leaving next week also. I think if you are going in peak season, it's always better to over plan. However, realize that you'll need to relax and enjoy what you can. Personally, I have a high level of excitement early on but the week of...I start feeling as if it's coming too quickly and I don't want it to be over!

It just seems to take all the fun out being there for the first time.

It won't! Don't worry, you will have a great time. This is one of my favorite times of year to go to WDW, and all your planning will pay off. Have fun :)

On my last trip to WDW, I overplanned. I was on one heck of a schedule, too! I actually came home more stressed than when I left!

Planning is fantastic, and necessary. But I agree with everyone else . . . go and enjoy!

And LindaR sums it up best when she wrote:

"I am positive that once you arrive you'll be glad for all the prep work that you've done and you will be so happy to be there. You KNOW it'll be crowded. Think of all the people who go there who have NOT done any research............you have a tremendous advantage."

I second that! Pixie dust coming your way! And hey, have a Mickey Ice Cream Bar for me, o.k.? :flower:

We leave on Thurs also....my advice is just like everybody else...go and enjoy...but at least you have the knowledge that it will be packed...let that work for you...use fast pass, EMH and just don't try to do it all..

Have fun it will be a great time...

I understand what you mean about the castle and such! But try not to read any of those posts and remember, just b/c you may know about some of that, dd doesn't... and as a parent it's often just as exciting to see our children's excitement... so you have that to look forward to!

I just got out of my planning slump. I get really excited when I first make my ressies. Then for about 3 weeks all I think about is Disney, what are we going to do, what don't I want to miss, which park on which day and so on. Then I go into my"It's never going to get here so I might as well forget about it" mode. Well about three days ago I got all happy again because I'm under 50 days. Nothing can beat the sight of the castle no matter how many times I see it. So don't worry planning could never take away from that. ;)
