I'm not a DVC member (yet) but I was just fooling with some imaginary DVC point numbers and came across this question.. :teacher:

what happens if you are an odd number of points off on your vacation? Let's say you use all the points you need and you have 4 points left.. can you bank those into next year? Or let's say you want to stay one more day but you are 12 points short? do you borrow from next year or can you just pay with cash? :confused3

thanks everyone! :thumbsup2

You can bank any leftover points as long as you do it by no later than the end of the eighth month of your use year. You can borrow any number of points from that next use year at the time you call to reserve. You cannot mix a point reservation with a cash reservation to cover the same nights. However, you can make a point ressie for say 6 days and then make a cash ressie for the 7th day and then link the ressies. Just note, however, that because the ressies are out of different inventories, that you can make a point ressie at any particular time does not mean there will automatically be availability for a cash ressie, and vice versa.

For a single night, you either have to have points or cash. You can't combine cash and points for a single night. You can combine points and cash for multiple nights. Cash reservations made through MS are easily linked to your points reservations to make a single reservation. Cash reservations made through CRO cannot be linked to a reservation made through MS. You will have to check out and check back in and you might have to move. Some reservations that you can make with points are not available with cash, such as the BW view at the BWV.

ok, wow... that all sounds pretty complicated. lol.

I'm assuming it's easier than it sounds and not a big deal otherwise people would be complaining about it.

thanks anyway!

yes.

i would probably borrow from next year. OTOH, if it is a weekend night, it might be a better deal to pay cash for the last night.

it just depends on the specifics...

There is a lot of flexablity with points, so it can be confussing. :grouphug:

But you are right.. you can bank any extra points you may have or borrow the points you need (given you have them to borrow lol)

If you have 4 points leftover and you are within your banking deadlines, then you may bank them to the next UY.

If you are 12 points short and you have enough points available in your next UY, then you can have MS borrow 12 points to complete your vacation.

Be aware that banked or borrowed points cannot be returned into their original UY.

lovely, thank you. My questions have been answered. :)

The way it is sounding it will not be long before we are saying Welcome Home.:goodvibes

saying it to me? ooh, I certainly do hope so.. as a matter of fact, I'm working overtime right this very minute (well, I'm typing on the dis boards at this very minute but you know what I mean) and plan on saving all of my OT money in my DVC fund! My hubby doesn't even know I"m doing this but I've started a savings and I'm hoping in the next 10-12 months I can buy a small resale!

if you meant YOU will be hearing welcome home soon .. well, then good for you and I hope you do as well!
