they have a thready called "What did you do to save money this week" . I think it is a great idea, but it doesn't usually help me because of the places they shop and their easier rules for coupons. I was hoping maybe we could start one here. What do you think?

I saved money this week by going to the library to borrow magazines instead of buying them. And I have decided to quit Weight Watchers since I really am not following it. That is $15 every week. WE did go to McDonald's this week, but we had a free happy meal coupon and a $5 gift card, so saved about $10. I have to remember not to take dh with me when I am out. He always spends way more than me. Dd had to get two teeth removed this week and he bought her a stuffed animal she didn't need. Oh well, it was from the Disney Store!!

I think we should do our week from Sunday to Sunday. So this will be the thread for February 25 - March 4.

Last week I brought my lunch 4/5 days so that saved me at least $30.
I brought pop from home and made my tea instead of going to Timmy's saving me about $7.
We picked a cheaper pizza place for Friday night pizza and it turned out to taste better than Pizza Hut and we got three pizzas for the price of two at PH. So I guess that would be $10 (and we got a free hockey puck!! lol)
So for last week we saved about $47!
Can't wait for this week now! It helps to be accountable! Great idea!

Yesterday I purchased 3 pairs of pants for myself and 2 fleece scarves for the kids winter wear drive at school next year for $3.57 at Northern Reflections. The winter stuff was 50% off the last ticketed price. 2 pairs of pants were $7.50 each and the other $10. These pants normally cost $50-$60. The scarves were orginally $16.99 and were $1.98 each.

When I went to pay, I found out that I had accumlated over $30 on my Northern Reflections card that I could use towards my purchase. I guess sometimes having all these store cards do help out. Only I hate having to have 2 wallets, one for just all these cards.

I took all of those rewards cards and punched a hole in them and keep them on one key ring. I swear I have about 20 of them on there now and it's so much easier keeping track of them all and they fit at the bottom of my purse very easily. Much smaller than an extra wallet anyway!
Good deals at Northern Reflections!!! Score!!:woohoo:

I may have to steal that!

There is no problem defacing them like that? I am sure you wouldn't be allowed to do that to a credit card. But I suppose a reward card isn't the same thing. I wonder if you could do it to gift cards too?

We have been known to buy in bulk when there is a sale on, food wise that is. We buy our gas from Canadian Tire that way we get canadian tire money. If you have a van or something bigger it adds up fast. Thats how I get all my tools. I usually get them for free with the CT money or most of it paid that way. This is something that does cost money but if you think about it it really saves money, we go camping alot. Last year we went for 40 nights. It cost us $1200.00 for the sites. We cooked our own food so that really isn't a cost over being at home. The only other things that cost money was gas and fire wood. That is from easter to halloween. Kids love it and most parks have something daily for the kids to do for free. Thats a cheap holiday. All toys that the kids don't use anymore, if there still in good shape. Don't throw them out sell them on e-bay. You would be suprised what ppl with spend on used toys. PPL say were crazy buying DVD's just rent them they say. I'm not one to burn so if we spend money to buy them it's cheaper than going to the movies and soon you have a nice library. We mainly get the previously viewed movies from the movie stores. Saves money there too. Some of these things are prob not what you guys had in mind to save money, but this is what we do to save money and still have a good time. Who knows we all try to have our cake and eat it too. lol Just watch the fliers and shop wisely. Thats about all you can do nowadays.

Great idea! I'll have to think about my saving....hmmmmm. I'm pretty good at banking $$$$$$$ each pay into my Disney acct. S

and bought mostly stuff that was on for 1/2 price at Superstore and the BOGO free at Sobeys. I also printed off some coupons for a snack cake at Sobeys that is BOGO free. So it is regularly $3.49 for one, it is on sale for $3.49 for two and I have coupons for $1 off and I should be able to use 2 since I am actually purchasing two products so I should be able to save $2 and that brings it down to 2 for $1.49 or $0.75 each!!! Not bad for a product that was originally $3.49 each!!

You just have to be careful not to punch the magnetic strip. And no, I wouldn't do it with a credit card!! Reward cards yes!

One of the things I usually do is go to Sears.ca to check out the daily specials at the outlet site. A few weeks ago I saw a pair of casual shoes for $14.99 that are usually $45. Unfortunately, they didn't fit so I returned them. They can have some really good deals on their website.

Dh takes public transit everyday. We own one everyday vehicle. A 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. We will continue to drive that one vehicle until the warranty runs out. Right now we are at 31,800km so we have a ways to go. That's it. Dh owns a 72' Mustang Mach 1 that he drives for about 5 months a year for pleasure as it is built for the 1/4 mile and gets gallons per mile not miles per gallon. We found with me staying at home we did not require all these vehicles and sold them and bought a new one. We save loads of money on insurance, maintenance, upkeep etc!

We never buy coffee out. About twice a month I get a Starbucks. This morning dh bought me a large double double. First one since summer holidays in Kelowna.

I also preplan menus for 2 weeks and buy groceries from Superstore 2 weeks at a time. I only go in to get produce, milk and bread or if I run out of something. I also gas up at Superstore to get the kickback coupon of 7 cents a litre. I rarely clip coupons because I found I overspend on stuff I do not need because it is on sale. I will clip coupons for stuff I use regularly though.

I rarely use the dry cycle on the dishwasher. I dry most of my clothes on the line in the summer (personal preference) but does in the end save money. We have a high efficiency furnace, turn the hot water tank down slightly and extra insulation etc. All these little things add up to save money.

I do a lot of shopping at sears outlet. Even though dh makes a very good salary my Grandmother always said "live like your broke".;) In our case we do treat ourselves to very nice holidays and sock the rest away for retirement so we can enjoy our Grandchildren and take them on nice holidays.

Did everyone have a successful week in saving their Disney pennies?
I think I did pretty well!

Returned a defective shredder to Walmart only to find they didn't have the exact replacement and got $5.87 back in addition to a new shredder.
Bought my ds some desperately needed jeans on Sears Outlet for $6.99, regular $19.99. Saved $24.00
Brought my lunch everyday. Saved about $35.
Got two rides home from work and saved $4.00 on public transit.
Pretty good week!

How did you do?:cheer2:
