This will be our first trip to WDW in September and we are taking advantage of free dining. I know I have too many character meals booked, but we have a 2 year old and 5 year old and thought we'd splurge. This is what I have booked:
HDDP - using DDP (2 TS credits)
Chef Mickey's dinner - DDP
CRT breakfast - paying OOP
Crystal Palace lunch - ?
Whispering Canyon dinner - DDP
Le Cellier dinner - DDP
1900 Park Fare dinner - DDP
Garden Grill lunch - ?
We only have 6 TS credits. So should I keep Crystal Palace and Garden Grill and pay OOP? Or should I cancel one of them (likely Garden Grill), and pay OOP for the other? If I cancel Garden Grill, will we have a difficult time finding anywhere to eat that day? I've heard that if you don't have ADR's, finding somewhere to eat is next to impossible.
Thanks so much. Love this board - finding out tons of information.

Hi...looks like you have some great places picked out! There isn't a right or wrong answer here. But having said that if it was me I would cancel Garden Grill. You will see most of the same characters at Chef Mickeys.

And don't worry about finding a place to eat at EPCOT. Some of the best CS restaurants are in the WS and no adrs needed.

Have fun!

Well, if you cancel the Garden Grill, there are plenty of good CS restaurants to eat at in EPCOT. We like the Sunshine Grill in The Land, in the same area as the Garden Grill, but it is CS. So if you can use a CS credit and eat there. The other thing I noticed is that you have 2 2TS meals booked, although you are paying for 1 OOP, you have 8 TS's booked. Are you eating 2 TS meals somedays? We found (and mind you this is my family, we have me, DH, DD10 and DD7) that the TS meals were a huge amount of food and we found on the days we had 2 TS meals, we were unable to eat much at our Dinner ones. We actually wasted food. It was just a huge amount of food available and we had poor planning on our last trip. Our trip this year we have 1 day with no TS meal and the other days we only have 1 TS per day. For us this just works better to spread it out and have CS meals and snacks as fill ins where necessary.

I have never been to Garden Grille but I was just at Chef Mickey's for dinner and it was disgusting, I will never eat dinner there again.

I'd bag Garden Grill. I thought the food was pretty poor and the saving grace was amazing character interaction. Since you have quite a few other character meals planned I don't see that being an issue. There are tons of CS in EPcot that are very good to choose from - sunshine seasons in the land pavillion is terrific.

yes we are eating 2 TS on some days.
Monday - HDDP
Tuesday - CRT for breakfast (OOP)
Chef Mickey's - dinner
Wednesday -1900 Park Fare - dinner
Thursday - Crystal Palace - lunch
Friday - Whisperin Canyon - dinner
Saturday - Garden Grill - lunch
Le Cellier - dinner
It probably makes the most sense to cancel Garden Grill (I want to be hungry for Le CEllier).

I would drop the 2 credit ressies and that way you could get more TS experiences w/o paying OOP. Crystal Palace would probably would be the one I would keep, based on the ages of your kids. Also, Le Cellier is my FAV restaurant, so I would definitely keep that one.

2 Monday - HDDP
Tuesday - CRT for breakfast (OOP)
1 Chef Mickey's - dinner
1 Wednesday -1900 Park Fare - dinner

1 Saturday - Garden Grill - lunch
1 Le Cellier - dinner

I thought you said you had 6 TS? I count 8 with Garden Grill. Even if you lose Garden Grill you have one too many. Is that correct? Keep the HDDR, it's a great way to start the trip!

Do you plan on seeing Wishes at the Park? it seems most of your dinners that are close to MK are outside the park, give yourself ample time to get back in the Park? I'm guessing you are just going to MK and Epcot, so you should be fine, just wanted to point it out.

I would pay out of pocket for Whispering Canyon if I wanted to keep all my dinners, it will be the cheapest one to pay for, I think.

I agree about Garden Grill, you do want to be hungry for Le Cellier. You could eat at Tangerine cafe early and split a CS meal between the two of you and get meals for the kids. It's a very fresh and filling meal. Or buy some pastries out of pocket in France, very nice.

Overall all your dining plan looks Fantasmic! Have a great time. Ask all your questions about the trip here at the DIS, people will help you out.

Do you arrive Monday? Early? Just asking because I would not book HDDR on an arrival day unless I was getting in pretty early.

I think it makes sense to drop Garden Grill. Other than that it is a hard call, but that is a whole lot of sitting around eating for a trip with young kids. I would consider dropping one more and having one CS only day. I'd keep Chef Mickey's and CRT and Le Cel for sure.

That would be too much food for me personally. I prefer 1 table service meal per day. Typically my husband and I split a CS breakfast, split a CS lunch, and then eat a TS dinner. Too much darn food otherwise.

I would definately cancel Garden Grill. It is way to much for us to sit down for more than dinner per day. We find it hard to eat heavy and walk around the parks, therefore we usually at a lite breakfast grab a salad for lunch (burger or pizza for dd) then we eat a great dinner. We also pack snacks for the parks like grapes, go-gurts, wheat thins:jumping1:
