I have a question for those who have stayed at Value resorts. DD and I have a really hard time sleeping at motels that have outside doors. Generally that is because of noise issues. However, I am really interested in the suites at Music. I am concerned about noise, though. So, if you have stayed at your typical Motel 6 type of place and at a value, how does the sound insulation compare? I am guessing WDW is better simply because it's WDW, but want to make sure.

We have not stayed at the Suites at Music. We stayed at the All-Star Sports years ago and it was extremely loud and noisy and the original reason we moved to a moderate (and now there are many reasons we stay at moderates only). However, perhaps the Suites are different.

We stated at ASMu years ago when the boys were small, and yes it was very loud. A very busy place, You can hear everything! If you are driving bring a fan to cut down the noise.

To tell you the truth, we heard more noise from outside the door at the AKL, Contemporary and the Wilderness Lodge than we ever did at the All Stars and the moderates. Just make sure you request a top floor room and one that does not face the main walkways.

Have you stayed at any other Disney resorts? We just got back from the GF and found the "door" noise to be much louder compared to ASmu.

Now, you'll still most likely hear people walking directly infront of your room but like I said, we heard it in the most expensive deluxe on property; it doesn't seem like something you can avoid. I'd say it's no different than our moderate experiences as well.

You have an advantage booking a suite; most in-room "neighbor noise" at the values comes from rooms with adjoining doors. Since the suite is two rooms witn no adjoining doors, this helps cut down the noise.

We always request third floor which seems to help cut down on the noise as well. Between the AC, fan, and/or TV we never heard a thing in our room at ASmu. We would occassionally hear some pool noise (3rd floor pool facing room) and going forward would probably ask for a room facing away from the pool.

I always take a white noise maching with me when we travel. Each of my DD's has one in their room at home so I just take one with me when going on vacation. We go to Louisville each Memorial day weekend for a huge softball tournament. The motel we stay out is right next to the ball field and is at capacity that weekend. There are usually rain delays so the games go on into the middle of the night. Making the motel very loud with people always coming and going. The white noise really helps keep loud noises from waking my DD's in the middle of the night. The one we have is a combo alarm clock/radio/white noise machine and I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond for like $15. It has different sounds you can pick from - waterfall, rain, thunder, forest etc. So something like that could help if you don't have room to pack a fan.

I stay at the values quite often and have never had an issue with noise.

The noise issues come with :

1. The main pool is located very close to some of the value rooms.

The themed pools at the mods and deluxes are set away from the rooms.

Tip: Ask for a room facing away or located a ways from the main pool.

2. Turbo toilets

The Values,AKL, & SSR are newer and have the turbo toilets.

Tip: Close your bathroom door at night because noise travels through the plumbing.

3. Connecting rooms

About 50% of the value rooms have connecting doors.

Noise will travel under the connecting doors in a room.

Tip: If you have noisy neighbors open your connecting door and place a rolled up bath towel on the floor between then close and lock your connecting door.

These tips should help you get a restful sleep wherever you choose to stay.

Have fun at Disney!

We have stayed at WL and ASMo. I think it totally depends.

WL was very loud as we had some very noisy neighbors who were obviously there to party. It was in June, a busy time.

We also stayed at ASMo. We have a lovely room in a corner on the side of the building away from the pool. We went in early Nov, a relatively quiet time.

Comparing the 2 in just those 2 incidents, ASMo was actually MUCH quieter than WL and WL is deluxe.

So it's very hard to say what you'll get!

I have stayed at the POP, ASMu, POR and CBR...they were all noisy with guests walking back and forth early in the morning and the turbo flush toilets.

I have also stayed at the deluxe resorts and have heard just as much noise...doesnt matter where you go.

Just got back from a stay ASMu suites. We were in the Jazz building between the main pool and the smaller one, and we were facing the middle walkway. Yes, the outside was fairly noisy with all the foot traffic and loud people in the pool, and one night we even heard a cheerleader squad doing something or other. However, once in the room, we hardly noticed it. I remarked to DW how quiet a room it was.

It's not so bad in the values. : ) If you really want peace and quiet I would suggest letting them know when you book that you prefer a quiet location on the top floor. When you check in, you can remind them again. There is no guarantee but Disney is pretty great about trying to accommodate it's guests.

Just F.Y.I. but the mod's and some DVC all have outside doors as well. While you do hear people going by sometimes, it's really not bad if you're away from the pool locations and elevators. Top floors also seem to help. No matter where you stay, you'll probably have some form of noise but it's not that bad (and this is coming from a light sleeper).

We stay at the Motel 6 type places all the time. We have stayed at the value resorts, moderates, and most of the deluxes. Yes, you can hear noise from outside your room come into the room. That is going to happen any place you stay. You will also hear TV noises from the next room. That is going to happen any place you stay. You will hear bathroom noises. That is going to happen any place you stay.

The wild card in all of this are your neighbors. And you can't control them. I've heard families in both the Beach Club and the Yacht Club standing outside *my* door and yelling for their families to catch up to them. I've stayed on the first floor at the All Star Movies in the Mighty Ducks section facing the pool while cheerleaders were there and slept like a baby. But then again, I've stayed in a connecting room with my in-laws at the All Star Music and THEY bothered me (LOUD TV).

One thing you will not have to worry about with a Disney resort. Well, not too much. Drunken people coming in at 4:00 AM, slamming car doors, staggering to their rooms and continuing the party next door.

we used to get ground level rooms at the All Stars and yes, it was always a little more noisier with people walking by....

so we now ask for the highest floor

recently stayed at Pop, got top floor, overlooking lake - very very quiet, minimal noise with people walking by, not near pools either - perfect!

I have stayed at Pop, CSR, CBR, and Poly. To be perfectly honest, we had the most problem with nosie at Poly, the only one of those resorts without outside doors. That is probably because when the door leads to the outside it is actually thicker and more insulated than the deluxe doors, which lead into the hallway. Pop was the next loudest, there were a ton of people there. The moderates seemed, to us, to be the quietest.

We have stayed at moderates and a deluxe. The deluxe was noisier. Over all we have had better luck with top floors away from pools at any condo or hotel including outside of Disney.

I've found this too!

The quietest resort I've ever stayed at was POFQ (top floor), didn't hear a thing, wonderful.

Maybe I'm just 'sensitive' to noise but I honestly felt that I heard more noise in the hallways of the deluxes (GF/YC/BWI) then I did at the moderates with their outside walkways (POFQ/CSR).

Thanks for all the feedback. We travel a lot and most often stay in hotels with indoor corridors. I think it might be the parking lot/road noise that is the problem for us. I know we will hear noise from other rooms on occasion. We have stayed at the Poly and WL both. The only noise we dealt with at the Poly was DHs nephew next door and at WL we were near the staff elevator which really bugged me but not DH at all. A pair of earplugs solved that problem!

So, if we do plan this trip, we'll request as high and far away from the pool as we can be.

Thanks again!

We stayed at ASMu in January in the Jazz Building wing closest to the parking lot. It was really very quiet. The resort was pretty full, but still not much noise and that was a ground floor room.

Now POP in September was a totally different issue. We were on the 3rd floor in the 60's and the noise was horrible. Mostly because there were unruley, unsupervised kids running up & down the halls after 10pm at night and neighbors who were to lazy to use a key card & flipped their lock out so that the door slammed back on it for over an hour late at night & when that's right next to the wall by your head it gets to be very annoying. We were on the backside of the 60's in a preferred room, but we won't pay for a preferred room any more & actually won't be going back to POP due to other issues there.

We didn't have any sort of noise issues at POR, either. JMHO....................:confused3

The UG did a study on this and the resuts are in the book. IIRC, the motel-type places with outside doors had less noise coming through than the doors in hallways type places.

They explained how they did the tests and why the motel places were quieter but I've forgotten all that.
