Going down the beginning of July to visit cousins in Wanchese, NC. I would love to stay with them, but am really badly allergic to cats and they have a couple. I'm looking to stay in a motel - i saw one on the internet located in Nags Head - looks nice - on the beach but they don't open till February..

Just wanted to get any other recommendations - a motel is fine - no need for fancy..would love it on or walking distance to the beach!

Thank u

any other recommendations of things to do lets hear it!

I'm not sure if this will help but we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Kitty Hawk last July and really enjoyed it. The prices are steep during this summer but they often have specials. It is about a half hour from your relatives but it is right on the beach, has indoor and outdoor pools and its own fishing pier. Enjoy your trip!

Almost forgot...make sure you take a trip to Jockey Ridge State Park at sunset...it is absolutely amazing!!

I can't believe you posted this. I got on here to ask almost the same thing! We're going in May. Hopefully someone on here will know so nice places.

seems like lots of the smaller motels are not open now in the winter - hard to find prices!

anyone??

We were just there yesterday, on Roanoke Island. We are members at the aquarium and it is agreat time to go now, no crowds. We have stayed a the HIlton several times, it is very nice. We have stayed to so many hotels over the years...We are only about an hour and a half away, so we go a lot (day trips, over night, and weeks). What kind of hotel person are you? What are you looking for?

If you didn't have a spot already chosen, I recommend Buxton. There are a couple small motel type places there for small families or surfers. It's an easy walk to the beach. We rent a house every year so I've not stayed in any of them but they are always full and it mostly looks like families.

We absolutely LOVE staying at Hampton Inn between Duck and Corolla. It is ocean front and there is a small diner (Pine Island Diner) located directly beside it. It is NOT among other hotels which is why we love it! You can take your belongings to the beach and basically leave them there all day because the beach is NEVER crowded. We've gone the last two years in July and love it. There are nothing but huge, beautiful beach houses around it and although it is peak season in July...you will never feel like it. Very, very relaxed. This hotel has continental breakfast which not only includes basics for breakfast, but has many hot items as well. We never had to leave the hotel for breakfast. There is all day coffee, hot tea, and hot chocolate. You can go online and check prices although many of the peak season is probably booked. Good Luck.

HI, I'm pretty much looking just for a simple motel - clean - love to be walking distance to the beach!

My cousins live in Wanchse, so i would like to be only about a 10 minute drive away... of course if there was a nice motel - not far from the beach i'd consider that as well! REally don't want to pay more than 150.00 a night -- less would be better, but its going to be over july 4th!

thanx for any help..

You should hustle to find accomodations for over the 4th of July. that's THE busiest week in the OBX!!! It's a madhouse and rooms are usually booked the year before as people exit.

We have been down to the Outerbanks 2 times. We drive the day before our rental date (8 hours) and have stayed at a hotel in a city called Elizabethtown. I think we stayed in a Comfort suite ?? It was A LOT cheaper than staying in a hotel on the beach. (There really were no "cheap" hotels that we could find during prime time ... and if you tried to book over a weekend, the required you to stay 2 days.) We only did this for one night so that we could get into our rented house ASAP the next day. The hotel had free breakfast and was only 45 minutes from the island. We got up early to beat all of the traffic that occurs on the main road in the afternoon.

Hope this helps.
